Days Inn by Wyndham Torrington

1st, hotel options are extremely limited in NW CT so after checking in and immediately checking out of Marriott Courtyard Waterbury CT, I've seen better neighboroods in Haiti. I tried this hotel as it was closer to my destination. It didn't disappoint my lowest expectations it terms of overall lodging. Hallway smelled like one of those Las vegas casinos that are way way way off the strip. Discarded nip bottle cap inside door vestible. Room had table but no chair, think someone stole and sold it for crack money. 1\2 way thru night outlets stop working unbeknownst to myself, so laptop, tablet and phones went uncharged. So all in all it was what I kinda expected for a Days inn in rural CT.

Before I start this review I would like to add that I HATE leaving negative reviews. I always try to resolve things in a private manner. Unfortunately, after multiple attempts my emails/calls have gone unanswered by leadership. Im a travel nurse and was staying at this hotel. While Torrington does not have many hotels to give someone a lot of options, this one is very conveniently located near everything and was a hotel I didnt mind staying at. I stayed at this hotel weekly from November 2023 - February 2024 - over 12 weeks of stays. While the hotel was not always the most quiet place, I felt fairly comfortable there. For the most part the staff is really sweet. The people that check you in and out are phenomenal - they are easily approachable and will do their best to help accommodate you with things. They knew I worked nights and always tried to get me a room in a more quiet spot - always extremely appreciated. This experience turned sour when one of the cleaning staff there decided to create new rules - which included that I couldnt get deliveries until after 3pm because it disrupts her and her crew from vacuuming the hallway. The day had started like any other day. I had gotten off work and went back to the hotel. Exhausted after a rough night at work, I used Instacart to order my groceries for the week. Something that I have done every single week of my stays at this hotel without issue. Working nights, my awake window is very small, which I attempted to explain to this worker. This housekeeper would not allow me to speak (she talked over me multiple times) and for some reason thought that she could stick her hand in my face and act like she was doing me a favor by informing me of these rules before turning her back to me and walking away. I closed my door a little harder than usual, obviously annoyed at this situation (because Im a grown adult who pays a lot of money to stay at a hotel and youre trying to tell me I cant order groceries?). She yells DO WE GOT A PROBLEM?!? And comes storming back to my door. Needless to say - she continued to shout at me (I didnt even get a full sentence in because she was talking over/interrupting me). It ended with her saying I could leave - which I had no problems doing. Before leaving though, I needed to pack up my stuff - like most travelers do. This housekeeper said she was calling the cops on me (for what, I still dont know). The police showed up at my door and asked about the incident, which I told them about. They explained to me that this housekeeper supposedly wanted to talk to me more in a civil manner with the police by her side, because as a grown woman in her 50s, she is not able to have an actual conversation without involving PD. I go out to talk to this housekeeper in the lobby area, where she was. I apologized for shutting my door too loudly, and she once again was interrupting me as I was speaking, refusing to allow me to say any actual full sentences, and also refusing to admit she was wrong. Definitely gives off that narcissistic boss vibe when dealing with her. I asked for a refund for my remaining days - of which she supposedly gave me, but shorted me by over $300. Im not sure if this was intentional or if shes just really bad at math, but either way - I would have liked my unused days refunded. So in short - if you plan on staying at this location, do not order food/groceries/takeout until after 3pm unless you want this woman to start screaming at you. Even though you are paying a lot of money to stay there, apparently there are curfews for when you stay/leave. I will not be recommending this hotel to other travel nurses I know, nor will I be staying at any other Wyndham hotel after this experience. It would have been one thing had the leadership returned my call or answered my email. However, this goes to show that this really is just a poorly managed chain that doesnt care about its customers. Good luck to anyone else traveling in this direction - but stay somewhere else if you stay overnight!
