I would not recommend the Salamander Spa in Washington, D.C. My mother and I had a Swedish massage and facial appointment. We went to the front desk for assistance in finding the spa. *You will need a room key or given access by a staff member to get to the spa floor below. Since it was our first time, it was not very clear. We were early, so we waited in the hotel lobby. Then, once it was time, it was a pleasant tour of the facilities and locker rooms. My mother enjoyed her Swedish massage. I had a facial, but an hour later, I had immediate bumps, redness, and swelling. It lasted for several days after that. The dermatologist tested me, and it is a staph infection. Salamander should reconsider its sanitization policy and the products it uses for skin care. Overall, it could have been better, first-time experience, but I would be willing to go back for a massage if not in D.C. but in their Middleburg location instead.

It was not worth the cost of the services. The Spa is under renovation so services are being performed in a suite. There is no use of any other spa amenities, which is a downgrade, however the price does not reflect such, and is not comparable to what is offered. Although I enjoyed the service itself, I felt robbed. I waited an hour past my appointment time because a therapist did not show up. I was unable to use a gift certificate which was sold under the premise of "no expectation date" because it was purchased while the company was Mandarin Oriental even I never received notice of the policy. The atmosphere simply did not measure up. The prices are still set for luxury services and I did not receive a luxury experience. I would not recommend patronizing the Spa at this time.
