This is not a place for someone wanting to go on a day hike. This is following a dirt road blocked off for vehicles on both ends. You can bypass it to a wooded trail and you will see a nice creek but it's not a hike, it's a walk that will lead you to a dirt road for cars, you'll then have to follow that to the opposite end from where you started or go back and follow the blocked dirt road. If you have kids, this would be ok but you'll want to turn around and not walk them on the road for cars because it would then all together make it an almost two hour walk. I never walked to the red bridge which I saw posted pictures of in other reviews because I couldn't find it while walking. I had to get in my car and go find it. It's nice but not for anyone looking for a real day of hiking. Best part was I made a friend!

Such a wonderful place to visit. You can walk, ride bikes, horses or drive this trail. No matter what you choose, you will see flowers, trees, water and wildlife. The variety of birds you will see is spectacular. From Pileated Woodpeckers, to Green Herons, to King Birds and Indigo Buntings. It is rich with variety. There is even a large Bald Eagles nest near the Shellrock River. You will see plenty of butterflies - including Monarch, Red Spotted Purple, Hackberry Emperor, Common Buckeye, Eastern Comma, Question Marks, Cabbage White, Orange Sulphers, and Yellow Swallowtail. There are a lot of dragonflies and damsel flies including my favorite - the Ebony Jewel Wing. You definitely need to go experience this for yourself.
