Hello Beverly, I want to reach out to you because I understand that you came into our store the other day and were upset when an employee shared our new policy of no large purses or back packs. I'd like to explain and give some context. First, we’re a small business. It was such a hard decision, and it was only after much thought and prayer. Frankly, it is not a change we like either. We truly wish we weren’t forced in to making it. The problem we’ve faced is that unfortunately we were shocked at the amount of theft in recent months. In each case the shoplifter had an over-sized handbag or backpack they could easily hide valuable merchandise in. Faced with this we had one of two choices. The first one was to pass along these costs to our wonderful customers who love to shop with us or to simply ask for no large handbags or back packs. We came to the decision that our customers would rather come in with a small cross over or just put their larger purse or backpack in a new locker with a key to lock it up for safety. We do have cameras but would have to hire more staff to watch the camera’s 8 hours a day. That would also increase the costs that we'd prefer to not pass along. That does not stop the person who is going to steal and unfortunately you cannot pick them out when they walk in the door. So we decided on nothing larger than a 9 x 6 which is the size of a small crossover bag. I understand that this will not deter all shoplifting but it will help. I hope you know we value your feedback. We even agree that we wish this wasn’t necessary. The last thing we are trying do is upset or disappoint anyone. The decision is certainly not directed at you or any upstanding customer. We’re just trying to keep our pricing the best we can for our customers. We hope you’ll reconsider shopping with us but if not we wish you nothing but the best.
