I have been coming to this location for the past two years while living in Brooklyn to pickup cars for the weekend as I do wedding planning out east. I have never had a better customer service experience than working with Johnny at National. Listen, this is a small regional location in a small parking lot. Its not the same experience you are going to find at the airport. It gets busy and it can be cramped. Its New York so have some patience if youre not familiar with this location. But with that said, Johnny and the National team go above and beyond to give you a great experience. He always shakes my hand with a smile. Asks how everything is going - is genuine and kind. I realize too he treats everyone this way. Everyone thats a regular knows Johnny. Renting a car especially in New York can be a really tough experience but Johnny is relaxed, professional, and actually makes renting a car at National enjoyable. He always does his best to make you feel comfortable. Today he helped me navigate the parking garage and stopped traffic to let me out. When I rolled down the window he shook my hand and wished me a great weekend. He wasnt even the one handling my contract today, but he goes above and beyond to make his customers feel welcomed.

Update: Still confused. Not a normal National experience. The manager (Morgan) told me that actually it's completely normal to try to cover bad odors with scented air fresheners. This means that if you have allergies triggered by tobacco smoke, you get a bonus odor. I guess it's a good deal that they can charge $300 or however much to customers who smoke and then just slap 99 air freshener on the dash. Morgan kept trying to make the conversation about upgrades. Gave and then rescinded a one day refund. Got mad and told me that I couldn't get a whole week for free. I never asked for anything for free. I wanted her to understand that I wanted to be able to expect a clean car without hassle. Every customer wants that, right? -- I am so confused here. This has been a great location for years. They're busy but well managed. Until recently. This week I came to pick up a one day rental. Dirty. Smelly. Then two more dirty cars offered. I had to wait for the least dirty to be cleaned. I am not even picky. Dirt on the floor? That's fine. Sticky spots and crumbs and whatever else? Come on. No expression that this is not what they want. I later found out that the person who assisted me was probably the manager. My customer service complaint had been closed out without a response. Today I had a new reservation. I booked the Luxury option because I don't expect an upgrade. I was offered a Volvo that had a tree air freshener hanging in it. I did not trust it. I was told that I would have to pay extra for anything else. After back and forth I got an Audi Q3 but was told this location will never upgrade at all going forward. I was also offered a BMW X5, but guess what? It stank. Having clean cars should not be optional for National. Especially when we have Avis a block away.
