I had an amazing day with Katie Johnstone as my guide on the Great Miami River hunting smallmouth bass with some fly rods. She put me on the fish, kindly corrected my mistakes and bad technical habits, changed flies/techniques based on changes in conditions, and had a great eye for finding fish. Whether youre a beginner or seasoned fly angler, youll have a great time, learn a lot, and catch plenty of fish. She is a true professional with an amazing passion for ensuring her clients maximize their investment in a guided trip!

I am new to trout fishing and my job keeps me quite busy, so it is difficult to get the time to learn. The person who was my guide (Ben) gets an A+ for the trout fishing lesson he gave me last week. He taught me everything from A to Z in a patient and clear fashion. It was quickly obvious to me that Ben had a real passion for trout fishing, and that I simply needed to watch him and follow his example. We caught a lot of trout (in the same places where I previously caught nothing ) which allowed me to learn so much in just 1 day. Mad River Outfitters is fortunate to have someone as skilled and easy to work with as Ben, especially for people like myself who know very little about fly fishing but have a strong interest to learn but not much time to do so, I am 100% certain that when I take my wife fly fishingnext time, she will catch many trout! But more importantly Ben has given me the foundation that I can now build on by myself

Our guide for our trip was Donnie Knight. He was very accommodating and worked very hard to make sure that I was able to enjoy the trip. I am handicapped and have limited mobility and he figured out a way to get me in and out of the boat without getting wet. He put me in the boat and we slid down the banking until we got to the water. He was very knowledgeable of the river and gave me every chance to catch brown trout.. On our trip I personally had a chance at five trout, unfortunately I did not hook any which was my fault. My only complaint would be that I felt the price for the trip was a little pricey for a one-day trip.

Fished with Josh, had a great time and caught a good amount of steelhead. Learned a lot, and looking forward to our smallmouth trip!
