I attended the 28th annual Egyptian Festival on 8-25-2023 at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church at 200 Old Village Rd. in the "Lincoln Village" neighborhood of Columbus. For those familiar with Franklin County history, I will add here that Old Village Rd. is about one mile east of the now-former New Rome village on W. Broad St. After a church tour [that had been led by a priest] [in what I would call the "sanctuary" of that building] and after I had explored the remainder of the building [that had included clothing on display in the main hallway and a "gift shop" in one of the side rooms], I went outside and visited the "food tent." Much of the food that had been available during the Egyptian Festival had been what I would "Mediterranean" food [with which I am very familiar because I have eaten many Greek meals over the years]; the one unfamiliar-to-me item had been Macaroni Bechamel [penne pasta, ground meat, onions, milk, and eggs]. Macaroni Bechamel is similar to lasagna except that there is no tomato sauce and that the pasta is "corkscrew" in shape rather than being large flat pieces. St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church is in a former Protestant church building that had been built in 1960 to serve as a Baptist church. The "A-frame" roof line is not what one would typically expect for an Orthodox church. St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church moved into that building during 1993. My favorite part of the Egyptian Festival had been spending quiet time in the "sanctuary" of the church building while listening to recorded liturgical music and waiting for the "church tour" to begin.
