It’s unexpected (to say the least) to receive a review from someone who did nothing more than briefly visit our shop to get a price quote for framing, especially when the primary criticism is that I “kept talking about price.” He never placed an order. We never even established a design for his piece because the reviewer did not bring his artwork with him. I was told that it was a work of pastel on paper (he showed me an image of it on his phone) that needed to be framed for a gallery showing and was given a set of measurements. I priced out several frames that I felt would be appropriate for the medium and setting and recall commending some of the profiles as being good values. As an artist with the goal of selling his work I thought this would be something he would appreciate, as whatever he invested in framing would be an expense he would need to recoup, and thus affect how he priced his artwork. It’s certainly the first time in over ten years of owning this business that a customer has been upset at me for being mindful of that! His notion that it was done out of some concern for what he was able to afford is frankly absurd.If the reviewer did not feel a rapport with me and thought his work would be better served elsewhere, fine, no hard feelings, take your business to another shop. But why write a negative review? Its basis is a complete misreading of me, my motives, and my impression of him (one doesn’t last long in this business being rude to customers, and in this instance, I was nothing but respectful), and since an order was never placed a full evaluation of our services could not be fairly made. I hope he will consider removing it, as quality reviews are essential to the success of a small business such as this, and I’ve worked extremely hard to make it one people can trust.(Reply Originally Posted March 2023)
