Whoa! This is way more than an information center. It is, more importantly, a wonderful little museum documenting life in the town of Faith since it was established in the 1800s.
As I told the gentleman we met there, a retired rancher named Noel Fischbach, we were drawn in by the "clean restroom" sign but realized we had hit the jackpot when we saw the exhibits.
This museum is a gem. It details the history of Faith as South Dakota's center for cattle ranching and shipping (by rail) and a gathering place for rodeos and other events. (I won't tell you too much so you'll have something to learn when you go.)
If you're lucky enough to run into Noel you'll find he really knows his Faith history. (He's lived there all of his life in and around the ranch his family has owned for over 100 years.) He showed us around and answered every question we could think of about living in this unique town and living on central South Dakota ranchland.
As many of you know the road trip is not what it used to be. We drove over 4000 miles on our recent vacation and found the larger towns filled with Walmarts, and even in the off season, the larger parks and main attractions seemed pretty "touristy".
It's getting into the small towns and visiting the off the beaten path places, the restaurants, gas stations, and local museums that makes the old fashioned road trip worth the time and effort.
