I've been a chiropractic patient for more than a decade, but recently moved to Clarksville and had to try to find a new one. My initial visit at Harris Chiropractic, with Dr. Harris, was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a chiropractor. (This is a two-star review instead of one because I saw Dr. Black the next day for a massage, and she was great.) Short version: Dr. Harris made sexually inappropriate comments to me (about my looks, along with my weight; about how his first wife got pregnant every time he looked at her). He didn't listen to me and stop what he was doing when I told him he was causing me excruciating pain. He said he didn't understand why "they" (an orthopedic surgeon) would do surgery for a ruptured disc in my back---without allowing me to explain. And he rambled, cut me off, lost his train of thought, and slurred his words as if he'd been drinking (at 10 AM). Long version: Dr. Harris spent almost all of the 90 minutes I was there talking about how much money he makes (or doesn't); how awful politicians who "screw up health insurance" are; how little money he makes because of health insurance; his two ex-wives and his current girlfriend (he's in his late 60s); how he makes more money flipping houses than being a chiropractor; how he used to work at nuclear power plants, but the governor of Ark. prior to Clinton ruined that for him so he became a chiropractor; how his first wife seemed to get pregnant every time he looked at her (yes, he really said this to me); and then he talked down to me about how I "seem" to have all the "right answers" when it comes to what I'm doing "wrong" to make my back hurt. He also mentioned doing a muscle test for food sensitivity which is junk science that has been debunked multiple times over by reputable scientists/doctors. I have no respect for any health professional who espouses/practices this nonsense. In addition to the sexually inappropriate comment about getting his wife pregnant by just looking at her, he compounded the inappropriateness by saying: "You're an attractive woman. If you'd lose weight, you'd be devastating." Look, I know I need to lose weight. I've been trying for 30+ years since I hit puberty and started gaining! But don't try to tell me that every single problem I have (health or otherwise) will be solved by losing weight. Plus, it's really hard to do when my back and neck are causing me enough pain that I can't exercise. Then, after at least thirty minutes of his rambling at me, he started the "adjustments." Sure, it's been a while since I've had it done, so I knew there would be some pain. However, he seemed to take pleasure in causing it. And he wouldn't stop even when I told him the treatment he was doing was causing me excruciating pain (and I have a high pain threshold)--as in, I seriously thought the muscles were going to tear. He wouldn't even give me a moment to relax/recover before trying again. When I tried telling him about how I had a lower-lumbar laminectomy 15 years ago for a ruptured disc, he said he didn't understand why "they" would have resorted to surgery. But he wouldn't let me talk long enough to explain to him that my PC doc at the time told me for two years that I just needed to lose weight to make my back stop hurting. After I finally annoyed that PC doc into a referral to an ortho, I did another year of physical therapy and other alternative treatments; but by then (three years after the initial incident), the pain had become so excruciating that I was losing time from work and had no quality of life, so surgery was the only option. But I couldn't explain that to Dr. Harris because I couldn't get a word in edgewise. And the whole time, he was slurring his words and losing his train of thought (at 10 AM) such that he sounded drunk. He didn't smell like alcohol, so maybe that wasn't the problem---but he did mention having a drinking problem at one point in his life (though I'd already picked up on the speech pattern long before this came up).

I’m honestly surprised by the reviews given to this chiropractor after going here today. Dr Harris seemed drunk through the entire consultation, slurring his words and losing his train of thought. His adjustment was rough and painful and the table wasn’t properly locked into place causing it to jolt around as he adjusted me. He did seem knowledable, but his demeanor was extremely offputting. He even made a comment about women’s breasts. I would not recommend him and will not be going back.

Dr. Harris' advice and knowledge was even greater than his adjustments for my teenage son. Don't dismiss his uncharacteristic and querky demeanor; he really knows what he is talking about. By listening to Dr. Harris' advice, it literally helped to change my son's life and get him back to healthy and normal, mentally and physically. I highly recommend him.
