Settlement Place Apartments

I lived at a this apartment complex for 3 years. I gave them a two star rating for my first and last experiences with the mcgrath office. 1. They forgot our move in date, and I had to call the emergency maintenance number to get our keys. 2. When our last lease came up for renewal we told them we were in the process of trying to buy a house. During that time they continued to pressure us to sign our new lease (which would have been lease #4). So, for threat of our apartment being rented from us, we did sign on the last day they gave us before they said they would start showing our unit. Later that same day, we got a call saying our house offer was accepted. Before 4pm, on the same day, we asked them to let us out of what we literally had signed only hours before. They wouldn't let us out. Keeping in mind, we had been tenants for 3 years and paid over 70,000 dollars in timely rent payments. We had no choice but to find someone to take over our full 12 month lease. I was heavily advertising our unit and offered incentives to new tenants to take over our lease. The office had full control of the paperwork, and when someone would inquire on our unit, the office would offer more to them to rent their other open 2 bedrooms. We ended up loosing $5k to get a tenant in our unit instead of mcgrath renting another one of their open units to a tenant I found on Craigslist.

Large apartments and an incredible location very close to the capital square. Relatively quiet building; I happened to have an apartment next to the front door and elevator which naturally created more noise (I would avoid a unit next to the elevator if you can). Quick turnaround maintenance and attentive property management staff. Overall a very nice building and reasonably priced for downtown Madison.
