Our experience in working with Dr. Hoistad was insightful, efficient, and effective. We found her suggestion of meeting together as a group and one-on-one meetings to be very helpful. She helped each of us individually create a framework that we merged together as a group. We made great strides in our communication skills and found tactical solutions to use going forward in to the future. We would recommend any partnership to hire Dr. Hoistad.

Admittedly this is just one person's opinion, but sadly I cannot advise business owners to avoid Dr. Hoistad more emphatically. The good reviews here were ultimately what led us to contract Dr. Hoistad. But these positive experiences documented by what appear to be younger individual clients did little to warn us about Dr. Hoistad's lack of knowledge surrounding actual business law, ADA law, or group small business ownership. Our company hired Dr. Hoistad to assist with interpersonal communication issues between diverse team members, including one Autism Spectrum Disorder individual. Dr. Hoistad charged around $4000.00 to "assist" and "coach" through these issues, but showed up for at least one session with zero notes, zero plan, and then encouraged the attendees to "tell me what YOU think we should do." Rather than assist other team members in not triangulating on the ASD individual as a convenient scapegoat, she--and this is my opinion as a longtime certified coach who works with chronic disease and neurodivergent patients--appeared to facilitate a fixation on that ASD individual rather than guiding the rest of the group to personal accountability, goal orientation, and better communication. Dr. Hoistad also enabled the "bully" of the group on multiple occasions, and unprofessionally rolled her eyes or was sarcastic when challenged in session. When this tactic proved to be folly--leaving the business in imminent legal danger--Dr. Hoistad stopped responding to emails, phone calls, all communication...just completely disappeared. The cost to the company between Dr. Hoistad's "coaching" fees, plus the legal expenses to help resolve the issue she participated in before ghosting, number in the 10s of thousands of dollars. She failed to demonstrate proper non-biased coaching ethics, and failed to research the legalities of her recommendations before making them. I am sure given the other reviews here that Dr. Hoistad is skilled in her original field--clinical psychology with individuals--but as a business consultant working with a diverse group she proved to be a disastrous choice.

I worked with Dr. Jan Hoistad as my executive and career coach for a number of years as I have moved through various transitions. First and foremost was growing me into a greater leadership and training role in my organization. At the same time shes offered great guidance to me as a single working mom, and to my two sons as theyve grown into young adults exploring college options and developing their career paths. Finally she helped me think through what I wanted to do next as I prepared myself for a much planned for early retirement. After successfully reaching my goal to retire early, coaching with Dr. Jan keeps me on track. We focus on the new priorities for my newfound freedom. These include traveling the country to find a compatible geographic home. Enjoying exercise and self-care activities. Making new friends. Navigating distant parenting of twenty-somethings while keeping an eye on aging parents. All the while were tapping into a dream I have of sharing my experiences in a podcast for others like me--early retirees who want to create a vibrant life they enjoy for the next 30+ years!

As a student pursuing studies in political science and astrophysics, I worked with Jan during a time of great transition where I was choosing between colleges in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic with great upheaval in my personal life. Jan helped bring a calm, level-headed and knowledgeable perspective to an issue that was very contentious and stressful at home. She helped me make connections with people I otherwise wouldnt have, in fields relevant to my professional interests, who also helped me make the decisions I had to. These were choices I had to make now for my best future and career outcome down the road. I am very grateful to her for helping me through this time, and doing it in such a way that the final decision was both informed and my own. I now have a good idea of my future path.
