I understand the previous positive reviews. You walk (or call) in, talk with some people, get the information you need, have a nice chat, and walk out. I get it. But what should the Survey be doing, other than answering questions (provided you dont try to find someone on a Friday afternoon)? Research. Its in Ohio Revised Code 1505. The Survey geologists should be adding value to the State of Ohio by doing research. So what are they doing? No much. Even with a staff of over 30 and a sizeable budget, the Geological Survey of Ohio has not produced a serious research publication in over 30 years. Not publications in the form of posters and park pamphlets. Rather, research that is peer reviewed and substantive. Having worked for this Survey I can tell you that many of the employees spend their time gossiping, watching the clock, having pointless meetings, rewriting papers, attending conferences, filing grievances, and filing EEO complaints. Thanks to the Ohio State Employee Union and political appointee hacks in charge, the Ohios Geological Survey has become something of a joke and a total waste of taxpayer money and severance income.
