I hired Rich months in advance to prepare my Mom's estate returns. I was impressed with his ability to digest 50 pages of instructions to form 1041 and apply it to my Mom's situation in about 15 minutes, over the phone. However, after providing a lot of information to his secretary and signing the contract, he had his secretary send me and my brother a severance letter as an attachment to an email saying her returns were too much work for his firm, which made no sense given how easy and simple he made them sound over the phone. It was such a cold, unprofessional way for him to communicate to us while we are overwhelmed and grieving our mother's passing. Based on this experience, trust was completely broken. Therefore, I would not recommend hiring Rich at all. To Rich's reply I respond with: At no time were we vague about wanting your services. My brother signed the contract, we uploaded all documents requested, we sent several follow up questions to be sure that the manner in which were accounting for estate transactions would meet your needs for tax reporting. All communication had to be funneled through your secretary, except for one 15 minute phone call with you directly. Would have killed you to pick up the phone to check your understanding of our intentions? Who treats grieving clients like this?
