        I went to do my taxes on Turbo tax for free. I have been making payments to the IRS, and thought I may have needed to fill a document out regarding my 2022 wages. I brought in my W2's, and Mary was able to get my 2023 return done in about 5 minutes. I was told I would be charged $400. All that was done was copying my documents and the numbers transfer directly into the return. I was then told it would be $276 with a discount. This was nice, but I know other professional tax preparers who charge $130 flat. I already pay $300 a month to the IRS and have a very limited budget. I only brought in my W2 because I was afraid I needed to fill another form out. After seeing how fast it was done I asked "could I have just done this on my own for free?" I was told sometimes yes sometimes no and then somehow out of the blue came another $70 discount. I am happy for a discount, but $400 for 5 minutes of work is un called for. I did my taxes for 2022 and 2021 with Jackson Hewitt, and payed nearly $500. I feel like the price was lowered just to get me to pay. It would have been nice to hear the truth of "yes you probably can do it for free." Rather than paying $200 (from the original $400). I don't know if it was for commission or not. Mary seemed nice, though I can't help but feel suspicious. I will be using another tax service from now on.
