I have lived here for about 2 years and management has been charging me Gas/Electricity and late fees adding up to $1544.71 for the past 2 months. I pay gas/electricity with PG&E and they continue to insist that I owe them money. I showed them my bank statements and PG&E statements and they are saying that it is not enough. Parking for visitors is terrible. You have to ask for a permit or your car will get towed. I was on vacation once and my car got towed 2 days in a row despite having a permit the second time. I had to pay $600 to get my car back. We just got a new manager/administrator and I have been back and forth with this matter and nothing has been done. Apartments and community are nice but I hear my neighbors upstairs all the time. Poor insulation. My kids love it here because we have made friends but thats about it. More loses than wins.

I recently moved in a couple of weeks ago and it has been a great experience so far. My apartment is beautiful and newly remodeled, and the floor plan is very spacious! The amenities are very nice and clean, and I also appreciate the fact that the apartments are gated, I feel very safe here. Lastly, I absolutely love the smart locks! They are so convenient and I can also control the temperature from the app. 5/5!

TL/DR: I've been living at Monterey Grove for 5 months now and overall really enjoy it! Location: Monterey Grove is on the edge of San Jose, but still close enough to all the amenities. You're minutes away from multiple grocery stores, restaurants, and stores without being trapped in the big city feel. If you want to get into town you have fast, easy access to 101 and 85 which is so nice! The buildings and grounds are well maintained (though they start grounds work early in the AM which can be rough if you like to have your windows open and sleep in). The buildings are well spaced apart so I've never felt cramped or overcrowded. Onsite Features: Monterey Grove has a small gym and a mid-sized pool for use during the day (open until 10 pm). The gym is usually quiet enough that you won't have to worry about getting a workout in. The pool is cleaned regularly which is good because it's very popular. There's a grilling area by the pool that can be rented out for tenants having small parties. Families here definitely take advantage of that, so of you're building is near the pool be ready for lots of music, kids playing, and general festivities through the day. I quite enjoy it, but it's not everyone's preference. If not, just go for one of the buildings in the back as they are quieter. There's also a small park in the middle of the property with some chairs and trees. I did some late night star gazing there and it was quite nice. Parking: Parking is very limited, especially if you plan to have guests or more than one vehicle. I know for a single uncovered spot it's $30 a month. I can't remember the cost for covered spots or additional spots. I know some places in San Jose have had issues with other tenants breaking into vehicles but I've had no issues or concerns while living here. There's a small guest parking section that requires a guest pass. Outside of the community the closest parking is on street a block or two over. I had to leave my car there overnight when I first bought it (before I got my parking pass) which made me very uncomfortable but I had no issues. I'd recommend getting the parking spot and pass for guests though. Best to not risk it. Other Tenants: Most people living here are young adults, many with children so there is definitely noise around the grounds. On the weekends some party people will be loud after quiet hours (10 pm) but not for long periods. Everyone seems nice enough, but generally minds their own business. I don't know any of my neighbors and haven't even seen the people who live on my floor. Overall I feel safe enough though. Apartments: These apartments are some of the nicest I've lived in, but I also just moved here from Minnesota so I don't have comparisons for the area. The rooms are quite spacious with high ceilings. My floors are a faux wood vinyl, the counters are granite, and the appliances are stainless steel. I particularly love the gas stove and in unit washer/dryer. The doors come with electronic locks that require a pass code and entry can be tracked via an app. Each person in the apartment gets their own code so you know who entered or left. Also, maintenance staff gets a temporary code if they need to enter that only works for a short window of time. Gives me peace of mind to know who has entered when! Also, you can lock/unlock your door via the app. Overall I'm happy with my choice, with the cost of rent, and with the location. A special shout out to the Community Manager Shara who is so friendly, kind, and helpful above and beyond. If nothing else, move here for her!
