I would recommend getting a second opinion and reassessing their customer service: I had a filling come loose and left a hole at the base of my tooth by the gum line. I had gotten this filling 4 months ago from a former dentist in another state. Whole experience is completely different from any dentist I've ever been to. They make everything sound nice and professional but then when you get there...it's completely different. You have to have a new patient screening, with x-rays, etc. I didn't see a major problem with this but then everything got progressively worse. The receptionist was nice, but very rude. Not very efficient either. However, I understand a lot of things were out of her control when it comes to actually seeing someone. Due to character limits on Google, I retyped and condensed the experience: Reception: Told me to put my name on list then she would call me up. Waited for over 30 min to fill out new patient iPad confirmation paperwork. Another 30 min before being called back. (I did have an appointment). Checked in with reception after 40 min, was told there's only one exam room so would just have to wait. X-Rays: Standard Hygienist: Said I had gingivitis. (Never heard this before). Also said that despite my brushing/flossing routine, I was not doing enough to take care of my teeth. (cue later in my story when you find out I'm only eligible for a gingivitis cleaning not covered by insurance and that costs nearly 300 dollars). Says my teeth are overall not that bad when I tell her I don't know what the problem is and I literally have seen my last dentist within the past 4 months. Dentist: Recommended crown as only option. Told me to look up abfraction when asked a couple questions about why I needed a crown when I had just gotten the filling 4 months ago. (FTR, did look it up, not relative). When I asked if that was really the case, he said getting it refilled would be "rejecting his professional opinion." Kind of stunned and asked about pricing, they said I would have to wait to talk about pricing with a manager up front so they could go over my treatment plan. Meeting with manager: Said she was my advocate (laughable, you represent the costs your team wants to charge me). Showed me a treatment plan totaling to over 1500 dollars, including that gingivitis cleaning mentioned earlier. Apparently insurance wouldn't cover any of it, despite them saying they take my insurance initially. Ultimately: Decided I would rather pay that money to another dentist with better customer care. Got a second opinion, they were prepped to give me a crown. The doctor took a look at it and said it only needed to be filled again and sometimes they don't bond right. Set up a cleaning schedule with them and will never go back to Aspen. Last moments: Called Aspen to transfer my X-rays over, said they would print them out and have a release form waiting at front desk for me to sign. (Their phone customer service is actually pretty good). I go in to pick them up and instantly feel bad for the poor souls in the waiting room. The receptionist, while still on the phone, tells me to sign in and she'll call me up when she gets off the phone. I tell her that I'm just here to pick up my x-rays and she tells me to sign in. I wait for another 15 min and she's still not off the phone. Finally I look around and notice my "advocate" sitting in the back. I say "Excuse me" a few times before she finally turns around and looks surprised that I would even try to talk to her when there's a receptionist there. I ask her for my X-rays which were supposed to be ready for pickup. All of a sudden the receptionist gets off the phone and grabs a folder and form to fill out that were literally sitting on her desk the whole time ready to go. The whole time she's berating me about being impatient, but after waiting over an hour the other day (pretty patiently) and 15 minutes at this point, I was not ready to waste more of my time. To the receptionist: way to be petty all the way until the end. Filled out my form and will no longer be going back.
