Our energy consumption skyrocketed because everyone was home 24/7 during the pandemic, and it was so hot last summer, our AC was running overtime. I was on budget billing with Idaho Power, and it was expected to jump from $60 a month to $95. Yow! I noticed a neighbor got solar panels, and when I asked her about them, it seemed too good to be true: no money down and 1.49% interest for 25 years. When you factor in state and federal tax incentives, it was cheaper ($71/month vs. $95) to finance the solar panels than I was paying for Idaho Power. Plus, because the panels are financed at a fixed rate, Im basically locking in my energy costs for the next 25 years while energy costs continue to soar. And when I pay off my system, Ill just pay a small ($5.24) administrative fee to Idaho Power every month. They came out to spec the system in September, and by the end of October, I had my panels installed and fully operational. It couldnt have been easier. If we want to combat climate change, we have to make it cheaper and easier for people to choose green instead of conventional; this program does just that. Im saving money and helping the environment? Talk about a no-brainer!
