Condensed version- Pros: - "The Avocado" desert is phenomenal - Atmosphere is peaceful with white table cloth and good separation between tables - Pecan crusted Brie was very good Cons: - The entire restaurant was running at an efficient but unnecessarily quick pace on a Wednesday night when capacity was 10 tables under half-full. - My entree (grouper and crab "cigar") was underwhelming with the Taquito-esque crab "cigar" tasting bland and the grouper lacking seasoning or some other element to make up for the average tasting broccoli and rice side dishes. - Hostess was very upset we asked her to take a photo of us... in front of the picture wall labeled "Seviche"... directly behind the hostess' desk. Review- The appetizer and desert were great and met expectations for myself and my significant other. However, both of our entrees fell short and were not up to par in comparison to our favorite restaurants in Louisville at the same price point as Seviche (Volare, Buck's, Jack Frys, North of Bourbon, Copper and Kings). We both ordered fish (salmon and grouper/crab) and the salmon was a step above the grouper but the portion size combined with the lack of "pizazz" really lowered the bar. The restaurant was operating between 30-40% capacity on a wednesday night at 6:30pm. The food came out quick which warranted no complaints, but the servers were still working and talking like a Friday night full house. Combining this with the bus boys/ladies hovering around tables to pick up plates the second they were empty did not give off a welcoming vibe. The most intricate issue happened at the end when we asked the hostess to take a photo of us. As mentioned above, Seviche has a designated photo wall immediately behind the hostess desk which is visible immediately through the front door. So we asked her if she could take a quick photo and she responded rather bluntly and offended that "ever since Covid happened she does not handle other people's phones and she could not take the photo," she then immediately fast-walked away from us through a not-busy restaurant to do something important that I have no idea what it was. First off, a fear of Covid is a COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE reason but could have been handled so much better and in a variety of ways. A. I do believe she was doing something important and she could have apologized to us and offered to find another willing employee to take our photo at their photo wall. B. She could have apologized and taken her time to explain her stance instead of treating us like we asked her to do something outrageous. C. If someone does have this belief of not handling other people's phones then I personally would find it difficult to work as a hostess for an upscale restaurant where my desk is stationed directly in front of the photo wall where people want to take photos to remember the experience. This was a doozy so my apologies for the wall of text. In my personal, humble, and inexperienced opinion- I would recommend any restaurant mentioned above over Seviche.
