Our well is 500 ft and we had no water today at 4:30PM on a Friday. We bought the house 10 months ago and this is the first well/pump issue. All we had to hand quickly was this company's number which was stamped into the blue plastic well head cap. Before calling we isolated the house supply and tested with a multimeter that the pressure switch was supplying 240V to the pump and that the pressure tank air valve was reading 38 psi when water pressure was zero (aside: it was actually at 32 so I topped it up to 38 using an air compressor). So this pointed to the well or pump being the issue. Within 10 mins of leaving a message they called back and confirmed they had installed the system 9 years ago. They had all the details in their system, had spare parts on hand and setup a service visit for the next morning. They said that worse case if they needed to replace the pump it would be $1,600 including pulling it up and that could all be done the next day which was a Saturday. I found this very reasonable and reassuring. A few hours later I worked out that a garden hose had ruptured in an out of the way place we didn't notice. That had spewed water and ran the well dry. Once I realized that we had the water back on as the well had refilled by then and canceled the callout. When your well or pump fails you are vulnerable.
