    As a lifelong sailor, I had never owned a powerboat. Most of my sailing friends who bought one usually found a great deal on a used powerboat which promptly caught on fire or sank. I thought I was going to follow in their footsteps when I discovered a vintage 1973 HiLiner Gypsy I quite liked that was for sale. It was designed by Ray Hunt! My wife had other plans. She loved the Robalo R222 and thought it would be wise to purchase a new boat with modern features such as a new Yamaha four stroke motor with warranty so I would not be out in the driveway sweating over and swearing at another project. We reviewed a lot of dealerships and a lot of boats. 3A Marine was the best. Jack White answered all of our questions and helped us decide which options were worth the money and which were not. To his credit, he dissuaded us from going with a larger motor as it wasn't necessary for our needs. We are very happy with the Robalo R222 hull, the Yamaha motor and the Tidewater trailer. Pat and John in service have been a pleasure to deal with and they do a good job taking care of our maintenance needs. During our most recent service, 3A replaced plugs, water pump, and thermostat with genuine Yamaha parts. Shots of the old parts included. A local lobsterman reviewed our boat and said, "It's just enough." On a scale of 1 to 10, my wife rates our Robalo at "about a 20, maybe a 30." I highly recommend 3A Marine as do a lot of other folks on the Robalo Owners Facebook group.

Prior to 1981, 3A Marine Service was a proprietorship owned by Edwin Lofgren who was a full time high school teacher and part time at the business.The business grew by leaps and bounds together with the high-energy economy of the 1980s and public interest in boating. Two significant steps were taken by the company in response to the above-mentioned growth. First, 3A Marine Service was incorporated and secondly, the land and buildings that house the business were purchased. This growth was chiefly spawned by our service orientation. Everything was, and is today, driven by Customer Service, and structured around a service center. Today, 3A Marine Service has an excellent reputation as one of the best marine service facilities in Massachusetts, and for Customer Service. This service, is, and will remain a focal point for the business. By 1988, growth was admittedly a management threat to business.
