Upper Lakes Chimney & Masonry LLC

We had mortar that was cracking and stones that were loosening on our stone chimney above our roof. We learned from Doug (the owner of ULC&M) that the original installation did not have insulation between the flue and the exhaust air so the flue was expanding and contracting causing our problem. Doug and his team fixed the core problem rather than just striking the mortar joints. As I watched the team repair our chimney I appreciated the the care the team had in doing the job right and explaining to me (a retired engineer) what and why they did each step. As a bonus, Doug is a true mason artist. Our new stone chimney above the roof is stunning! Doug and his crew did an amazing job rebuilding our stone fireplace with new stone design, mantel install, insert, cap, and hearth. It looks so beautiful and is the focal point of our home now. Tom and I liked that Doug was candid and knowledgeable about what to do for most effective results. He followed through and expected satisfaction. He was easy to get in contact with. Previous work on our house had allowed water to go where it shouldn't, not anymore, job well done!

January 2019 I started a fire in our in the fireplace when I arrived to my cabin on a sub-zero evening. I did not realize it at the time but because of the temperature I had started a fire too large/too fast and cracked the body of the unit. A week later Brandon from Upper Lakes Chimney was out to clean the chimney. During the cleaning Brandon did a full inspection and discovered the cracks. The cracks were so large that there is no doubt a chimney fire would have happened. Doug and his crew of Brandon, Dennis, and Tyler went above and beyond to replace the system. Doug found the only fireplace similar to ours in Duluth and secured it for us. He also did a faboulas job replacing the stone face and hearth. They did an amazing job at an out of season time and they did the entire job within ten days. Thanks guys!
