The Toasted Yolk Cafe

I live in Louisiana and I am a three hour drive from the Toasted Yolk In Biloxi. I visited in February and couldn't wait to go back because the donuts there were to die for (and I'm not big on donuts at all). Unfortunately, our food this time was not as good as our first. The food was less than warm, almost cold, They did offer another plate but by this time I had eaten all of my cold food and I was full. I told the manager he could compensate me with a couple of donuts which he did. The donuts he brought me were obviously day old donuts. The were hard and cracked and laced with a mountain of cinnamon sugar which was definitely on there to camouflage the poor appearance and taste of the donuts. The reason I liked their donuts previously is because I am diabetic and the previous donuts had no glaze and a cake taste and almost no sugar at all. Needless to say I will not be going back simply because they did not think enough of me driving three hours to go to their restaurant to get their normally scrumptious donuts.

LI truly wanted to love it, as I do love neighborhood dives. Unfortunately, our visit fell short of the experience we were hoping for. My guest and I sat at the bar, as instructed by the hostess. It was about 11:15am (today) Sunday, so fairly busy but not quite the rush just yet. I ordered the brisket scrambled eggs, my guest ordered the breakfast burrito. The wait for the food was a standard wait time, but the food was definitely lukewarm and borderline cold which is gross for scrambled eggs. Hashbrown casserole was cold. Grits were cold. Biscuit was hard. The male bartender was friendly and smiling, but the brunette female bartender was not. No greeting - just "what are you having." She also got clearly annoyed when I was finally forced to ask for water refills and coffee refills, which should've been at least standard. She didn't check on us at all after the food was served. We will perhaps try again, but it seems my review matches several others here.

Service, menu selection, taste, and value all outstanding! You can tell that the people that work here care about customer experience. I think I found my new regular brunch spot!
