James Newbury Hotel

If youve been given a room on the 4th floor, the hotel knows that its right under the restaurant/kitchen. The kitchen employees know they are right above the bedrooms. But things will be dropped at night time and make startling noises through the ceiling as youre trying to relax in your room. Music will also be played, being heard through the ceilings. This is at 10pm. When we called to ask what all the noise was, we were told that it was the kitchen and that they will be done at 11pm. That was the response we got from the hotel. Basically to deal with it. Also, you get to wake up to the sound of things dropping again in the morning for brunch time.

The hotel is beautiful. I loved the attention to detail in the wallpaper designs, furniture and overall functionality of the spaces. Each person who greeted us had a smile and answered our questions well. The bed was comfortable as well as the pillows. Areas for improvement : The indoor plants are diseased or dying. They looked terrible. Since it is a new hotel, I imagined they were placed for decoration and no one was told how to keep them healthy (feed and water). I could hear noise coming from above me in the evening. Voices and a bit of music. Nothing bad, but we had wanted a quiet evening. The noise stopped around 10/10:15pm. There was a couch in our room - it was WONDERFUL - comfortable and positioned perfectly to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the ice in the river float by. We will be back. It was very clean, affordable, overall excellent service and for a particular person like myself - overall it gets an A. :) Nearby activities: I loved the proximity of this location to where we were exploring.

We had a nice stay here. I came with my husband and son last weekend. The breakfast is simple but actually quite nice. Just what we needed and I felt like it was not too sweet/made me stick to my normal eating regime which I appreciate. The hotel is very clean, well kept, nice general manager and staff (including the custodial staff, esp., Chrissy) and the location is divine.
