First off, I will say that the plumber who visited my house was professional, courteous, and fast. Thank you, Rob. However, that is where the good experience ends. The overall experience was that Kimmey failed to honor their quote, refused to itemize the bill, refused to work with the warranty company, refused to work with the builder, refused to respond to emails with written communication , and omitted several facts about their pricing structure over the phone. Details: Kimmey did the plumbing in my new construction home. Upon closing, the builder, RMT, gave me a list of authorized warranty repair companies - the companies that did the original work. I called Kimmey from that number. I explained that My house is covered by a 2-10 warranty. They refused to work with my warranty company and simply did not bother to contact my builder, RMT. On the first call, I requested service date and was told I had to wait to schedule while water leaked into my basement. Since I can't let water continuously leak into my basement, I decided to not wait for the slow builder&warranty response and to hope that my builder and the 2-10 company will behave ethically and honor their agreement. Getting an immediate repair of course saves them thousands of dollars on a mold job. I ask for pricing over the phone, and the office manager tells me it's something like ~$86 for the first hour + what they charge for parts. There's a lesser charge for additional hours. While this strikes me as expensive for the area, but my best shot at getting the warranty honored is by going through the guys. They finally agree to a schedule on the second or third call. After describing the problems accurately over the phone to the office manager, I am given the email of the owner over the phone, Scott. I send an email describing the problem. Scott claims he didn't get it. I send a second one. Over the phone, I describe the situation with Scott. He again reiterates that I will have to pay them directly for the broken hose bib instead of working with warranty/builder. Fine, I agree. I am sympathetic to their plight that they want to be paid on time and I agree to take the risk that the warranty company/builder simply fail to honor their contract. You are welcome, Scott. One of the problems I describe to Scott is a leak under the sink where a pipe seems to have been installed with a large amount of tension. It pulled loose sometime the first year. Discovered it year two. Scott says that his warranty is only a year, but he said they honor stuff like pipes getting loose because 'that should not happen within two years'. He of course wants to have a look so he's not going on word alone. I send pictures via email. No response. The plumber repairs it in about a minute. It is nothing different than a pipe that came loose. Thanks to the lack of the itemized bill I receive, I can't even tell if I was charged for it anyway. It is written on the bill just generally. So bill time comes. Rob gets a price by calling the office in his van. $250 bill. I look at the paper and say that sounds sort of high. Where is the itemization so I can look at it? He calls whom I assume is the owner and suddenly I learn that there's a $250 standard price for hose bibs. I tell what I was quoted, and I am able to confirm that the service lasted a little less than an hour (with time stamped camera footage.) The materials are a brass anti-freeze hose bib that are $30-40 at retail and a few inches of pipe. Even with a double materials upcharge, I'm still coming in well under $200 for the hour of work. Now the story changes. Now there's a $50 travel charge that I've also never heard about and not listed on the paperwork. I point out that not only is a quote not being honored, but $250 is grossly overcharging. I get a spiel about overhead and what he has to pay for labor. I'm not an idiot. I know you're not paying Rob $80 an hour. What I do know is rip-off and bait&switch. Offered to tip Rob for great work. Refused. Classy guy.
