About
Ronald P. DeMatteo, MD, FACS
Dr. DeMatteo is the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and a Surgical Oncologist who specializes in treating diseases of the liver, bile duct, gallbladder, pancreas and abdominal sarcomas (GIST). His clinical research has focused on liver, bile duct, gallbladder, and pancreas cancers. In addition, he has led several national trials testing the benefit of imatinib mesylate (Gleevec) following surgery for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), a tumor that usually begins in the stomach or intestine. At the end of 2010 I was diagnosed with a colon cancer stage IV, with two large metastatic lesions on liver. Back then I was 50-years old man, working professional, father of family of seven, including two minor children... After colon resection, and 3 months of intense chemo my life expectancy was three years at most. At that point I turned for help to Dr. DeMatteo in NYC at Sloan Kettering Memorial.
In September of 2011 Dr. DeMatteo performed the liver resection. He handled my case very professionally, with compassion, but also with confidence. After liver resection I received another 6 months of chemo as a provisional care. The following testing reviled cancer in full remission, and now I am cancer free.
Today is Monday, May 16, 2022, and I am still around working full time, and enjoying very active life granted through mercy of God, and miracle hands of Ronald P. DeMatteo, MD
