        I'm so glad this was recommended to me! Serving sizes were huge and piping hot. I'd love to go back in nicer weather as the patio looks amazing with fantastic views of the water. Nothing fancy but a great spot.

        The Clam Cakes and Chowder here are great. Whenever I'm in Rhode Island I make a pilgrimage to Oakland Beach and visit Iggy 's. This is the quintessential taste of Rhode Island.

        Iggys used to be the best place around for New England chowder and clam cakes. I really think that time has made them complacent over the years. I went there for the classic white New England chowder but it was extra thick and bland. And the clam cakes were nothing more than a greasy ball of dough will a piece of clam buried somewhere in the middle. The same with the doughboys! Sugar covered grease balls. I used to Love Iggys!! I really did! But this last trip I spent a day and a half in the bathroom giving it all back to the ocean! I will probably try them one more time, but NOT for at least several months so they can repair the recipe!

      Iggy's Doughboys & Chowder House

      It all started with a promise and from there it was built on a vision. Gaetano Gravino was a hairstylist who had found part time work at a doughboy shack in Oakland Beach. This part time work turned into an opportunity that spoke to his entrepreneurial spirit – the same spirit that lives on in his wife and children: Sally, MaryAnn, David, and Guy. When the chance came to lease the establishment, Gaetano and his wife Sally took it. And in 1989, Iggy’s Doughboy and Chowder House was born – coined after a nickname given to him by his son, David. The featured dish at the time was the red chowder – the recipe a family secret created by Sally herself.
