My experience living here was a poor one, literally from day one. When I moved in, I had paid a fee with the HOA to move in, as was required, and abided by the rules and regulations. However, someone from the HOA board came out complaining to me.. I pulled out my phone to prove to this person that I had properly registered to move in. That was ridiculous. The elevator seemed to malfunction frequently In another instance, a neighbor had left something on the stove and gone out. This set off a fire alarm and caused smoke, which led to the occupants having to stand outside while the results of this careless action were taken care of. The HOA fees seemed a bit high - there was trash collection but no cost for utilities, internet, etc in the units. The ornamental flames outside would burn all the time, even when it was 90 degrees in the heat of the summer. I guess the gas or propane cost for that was a "productive" use of the HOA fee. I had never had this happen before in any other complex but someone from the HOA would go through the garage and transmit the vehicles to Arlington County to check to see if they were registered in Arlington County. I am not sure how that would've worked for someone visiting temporarily or a vehicle not permanently garaged there - I could see a potential, unnecessary headache with the DMV and/or locality resulting from that. Selling my unit and moving out proved to be a huge relief. I had lived in larger apartment units and never experienced this level of drama among the occupants, or other issues. I was happy to be done with this place. Going forward, any indications of an "active HOA" will be a deal breaker for me.
