Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Chesapeake Suffolk

The rooms were clean and had a nice layout. The water in the shower was so hot and steamy which I loved. The tv was a little staticy at times, and the ice machines on our floor didn't work.

First, let me say that the staff working was great. My original room (109) was infested with roaches. I let the staff know and they were very accommodating in finding me another room on a higher floor. Unfortunately, the room was near guests who were having a party all night. This made sleeping a challenge. Due to the initial room status (infestation), I did not feel comfortable partaking in the breakfast that was provided.

I've stayed at several Fairfield Inns over the years as a business traveler and have generally had positive experiences. They tend to have everything I look for on a work trip. Free breakfast, refrigerators/microwaves, a good place to hang up my work clothes, an iron/board, a desk to work at, clean cozy rooms, and no nonsense service. This location has all of those things. The only real downside for this location, is the surrounding area...more specifically the drainage ditch area that runs parallel to the parking lot, which looks a lot like some place in a 3rd world country. Massive amounts of plastic bottles, cans, and other trash floating in the muck. I realize that this strip of land might be a public easement of some kind, or even the edge of an adjacent lot, but it was a really nasty first impression for an otherwise nice place as I parked and unloaded my car.

I stayed there for 13 nights. My first night there, i noticed the fridge was starting to freeze everything inside. I looked for an adjustment knob but the model has to be taken apart to access it. I told staff and they said that i could ever swap my room or wait for maintenance the next day. I waited for maintenance since i was unpacked and said he would be out. Maintenance didnt come by night so informed them again. Still did not come. Finally he comes out after the 4th-5th day and hits defrost (put it to sleep 8 hours) and said it should work properly now and he would replace it if not. It was not fixed and i informed them and they said maintenance wont be out until monday (it was Saturday) Then on monday, still nothing. I inform them for 3 more days and he still never came out again in the time I stayed. Laundry was outdated and expensive, the computer and printer did not work the first few days I was there. Room service came in and replaced my soap but never changed my sheets. The staff was nice when confronted about the issues, but really, the niceness only helped so much when i had to toss my food since my milk was frozen and unfreezing it came out in chunks.
