I was fortunate to have Walter Sims (Navy Vet) help me purchase my home while I was stationed in Norfolk and after I had PCS'd I was able to have him manage the property for me for the past 13 years. Walter is very meticulous which gave me confidence that he would make sure the property was being maintained properly. Earlier this year the tenants lease was up and I decided it was the right time to sell and of course I asked Walter to be my selling agent. We had 3 offers the first showing and 5 weeks later the property was sold for the asking price. I highly recommend Walter for any real estate needs.. 10/10

First off, I am not a client or tenant of North Star Real Estate (thank the Lord), but I have interacted with their agents on several occasions recently. North Star is the agency that manages the house next door that is rented out to tenants. This is now the 3rd spring in a row since we moved here, that carpenter bees (from the house next door that they manage) have permeated all over my front yard and driveway and side yard. The carpenter bees have made a home in the side of the house, somewhere either in the vinyl or attic or elsewhere. I wouldnt care about the bees had I not have a wife and small children who are terrified about being stung by the carpenter bees, however likely that may be (I believe it is possible). When I initially called North Star a few weeks ago, to their credit, the gentleman I first spoke with seemed responsive when I reported the matter. About a week later, I happened to be outside on an unrelated phone call when they sent a maintenance-type person/handiman (when I inquired, I believe he mentioned he is some sort of contractor hired by North Star) who came over to assess. From research, bees require pretty warm temperatures to be able to move their wings, and the day the contractor came over was not warm enough. I explained the temperature part to him, and pointed out the area where the bees originate from - since they were nowhere to be found externally outside the house due to the colder temperature. He told me he would write up a brief report to North Star recommending that the vinyl siding be replaced, I believe. That was a couple weeks ago, and its been slightly cool outside mostly since then, but it has started to get warm again (thank goodness), but also unfortunately, the bees come back out. I called again yesterday afternoon, at the phone number listed on the google business page. I am not sure if I spoke with the same gentleman again as the first time, but I believe so. This gentleman seemed so indifferent and explained, from what i recall, that the vinyl would need a wrap or to be wrapped or something (sorry, Im not an expert on vinyl sidings and my wife looked it up online and saw some info). But the gentleman made it sound like either North Star - or the homeowner, or both, are not willing to pursue this wrapping process and I ended the call quickly when the gentleman interrupted me and mentioned wrapping again when I suggested they call an exterminator out there (I saw an exterminator come in late spring 2022 and spray stuff and the bees pretty much stopped buzzing around). To be fair again to North Star, I am not sure who is more responsible for resolving this matter - them, or the owner who rents out the house. To me, it is hard to believe that North Star bears no responsibility for resolving this - I feel that they may not have to repair the wood or whatever they are nesting in, but should call out an exterminator again like 2 years ago). From what I have observed from my phone interactions with North Star, I do not believe North Star cares about this matter, which is shocking because I believe these carpenter bees will gradually cause much damage to the house, which isnt my problem, and to me, frankly, would be fitting karma for whomever is responsible for the house. I would encourage prospective tenants to seek out rentals from other companies aside from North Star. I believe fully in the accuracy of everything I have wrote, how could I not? Come see the bees for yourself on a day where its a little bit above 70 degrees F. This is the house you manage on the Chesapeake /Virginia Beach border in the neighborhood off Centerville Rd. If you DO, in fact, care about the house you manage, prove me wrong and deal with these pests. When you get the bees to buzz off, then I will do the same. Thank you and I hope North Star takes some action regarding this.
