One star is too high for the horrid experience I had with Patricia Collier for the delivery of my first child. Seventeen years later, her cold-hearted treatment has not left me. Had I not been a first-time mom, elated with my sweet baby, I would have reported her. Instead, I switched immediately to a true midwifery center. Collier made it very clear she disliked moms having any 'birth plan' or expectation for a natural birth. She made a specific point of telling me a story about an obgyn that went on vacation without telling his soon-due patients, saying she would never do such a thing -- and then did just that. [It was oddly cold.] Unbeknownst to me(!), she told the obgyn subbing for her (a man she knew I did not feel comfortable with) to schedule me to be induced. He did so, without ever telling me(!). When I did not show up, she had the nerve to later "yell" at me for it; apparently, she thought that an automated reminder phone message (which I never heard anyway) should have been enough for me to go get induced (which no, it would not have been). When I required a follow-up utrasound to confirm her reasoning for inducing, she was mad/took it personally. Said ultrasound showed no issue, and no need for induction. Why, then, did she want it? It was getting close to the Easter holiday. I went into labor late Friday night. She 'tricked' me into going to the hospital earlier than necessary, starting her 24-hour window (deliver within or be induced). Great delivery aside from my pushing without contractions (I had no guidance) and the baby having her arm over her head resulting in some tearing (scar tissue from Collier 's stitches, which I guess is standard). However, despite the pediatricians having cleared the baby to go home, we had to stay a second night solely because Collier, and no one else from her practice, would come in to the hospital on Easter weekend to clear me to go home (so we spent Easter Sunday in the hospital wholly unnecessarily). Collier was not a real midwife, but a midwife in name only. Oh, and because the office displayed flyers for The Midwifety Center, I asked about it (@ maybe 5-6 months), and was told by her that they wouldn't take me because I was too far along. Having switched to them after my horrid experience (still there), I believe that was a lie.

Pat Collier was my midwife with my second child, who I had at age 40, and has been my provider of gynecological care ever since. I had a great experience in her care and delivery of my son. She was patient and took great steps to allow things to move along naturally without over-reacting with invasive procedures. She was also great when I was going through a season of depression and gave great guidance. I have been very pleased with her care!!
