Ive stayed in Marriotts all over the country and have never had this kind of experience. Reserved this hotel with high hopes for a work trip to arrive to a musty, humid room that wouldnt cool off. Coworkers experienced the same issue so we raised concerns which were thankfully addressed but not until the next day. On our third day of stay, were having a drink downstairs away from the bar just for the bartender and restaurant manager angrily kick us out by lying that its a state law. We ask the ladies at the front which were nice and informed us that it wasnt an issue to drink in the lobby area. Stopped our checkout and mistakenly relaxed because the assistant hotel manager then informed us that we couldnt drink out front either. The assistant hotel manager was a nice guy about it but now it leaves us wondering who is lying. Checking out and moving to Embassy suites to avoid being yelled at by some guys having a power trip

This barely qualifies as a 2 star hotel. I feel deceived and will be reporting this to Marriott. The building is in incredibly bad and possibly unsafe conditions. The staff are fine.

My wife and I live in Charleston and decided to stay at this hotel while our power was out following severe storms. We have stayed in Marriott properties all over the country and can honestly say that this is the worst full service Marriott Ive ever visited. It was so bad, in fact, that we packed up and went home after only a few hours! What made it so bad? To begin, because I travel often, I have Titanium status with Marriott. When I checked in, the clerk said she upgraded my room because of my status. My upgrade turned out to be a slightly larger room on one of the lowest floors, directly adjacent to the elevators with not one, but TWO adjoining doors - one on each side of the room. Add in noisy neighbors on each side (which I understand the hotel cant control) and its a recipe for a long, sleepless night. As for theupgraded room itself, the room was dated and smelled musty. Based on the decor, I would guess that it hadnt been upgraded in 15-20 years. It also had a sliding patio door to a decommissioned balcony. The door had a locking mechanism that kept it from closing all the way, so you had the added bonus of street noise! Behind the condition of the room itself, it was also lacking some basic amenities that one would expect at a full service Marriott. For example, the television was an old flat screen model with no smart features and a limited channel selection. We tried to watch TV and the picture kept freezing. And because it had no smart features, you couldnt even watch Netflix or YouTube. Then there was the internet - which was so slow I could barely get any website to load and finally gave up and reverted back to my cellular data and watching videos on my phone. Long story short, I would suggest to anyone looking for a place to stay in Charleston that you find somewhere else. I would also suggest to Marriott International they give this hotel a hard look and decide if it is worthy of carrying the Marriott brand. I would argue that it isnt.
