image DEFINITE HARD STOP - PASS ON STAYING AT THIS PLACE/HOTEL!!!!! NO STARS
We wanted to spend a nice weekend in the Quad Cities and decided to stay at Best Western Steeplegate in Davenport IA. We were out of state visitors and were looking forward to a great weekend. We wanted to stay in a CLEAN WORKING jacuzzi suite to relax in after our golf game.
We should never have stayed at the Best Western Steeplegate, but were too tired to find another place. BAD DECISION!! Unbeknownst to us, this room was "on schedule" to be renovated!
Once we got into the room, we were surprised!!! Let's review what we found!
1) The room smelled moldy and wet.
2)The carpet was buckled by bathroom (TRIP HAZARD).
3) The TV didn't work - seemed like the outside wall didn't have electricity due to construction. The hotel staff came up to "fix" the next day and added a surge protector (attached to interior wall) and stretched the cord so tight that the electrical cords were stretched hanging above the floor. I'm sure this is a CODE VIOLATION!!!!
4) The room's telephone flashed all night and we were unable to turn it off - No button worked on the phone - couldn't even call the front desk!!.
5)The toilet in main bathroom is loose at base and "clunked" every time someone stood up!
6) The coffee machine was okay - but was only given 1 regular coffee and the rest was tea and decaf. Went to the front desk for more (for the morning), and was told that they didn't have anymore.
7) The jacuzzi was DISGUSTINGLY GROSS!!!!!!!!!! Mold and rust around the tub's jets and around the ledge of tub was disgusting.
The thought of sitting in that made me sick to my stomach!!!! What diseases were marinating in there? **vomit**
8) We complained to Front Desk and was FINALLY told about the renovations and that there was no other Jacuzzi suite available. Either we look for another place or deal with what we had. We chose the latter as we were too busy to find other accommodations - which I wish we would have moved!!!
This was our first time staying at a Best Western. We even signed up for membership. I can tell you that I will avoid these hotels in the future. Best Western was a great brand in the past, obviously it isn't important to them to deliver their BEST! So disappointed!!!!

image The issues with my stay are ongoing at this time. I simply wanted to use a gift card for a portion of my stay and that request has turned into several calls to customer service, several unpleasant interactions with the front desk, and an overall headache for what should have been a breeze of a stay. I'm incredibly unhappy with the front desk employees and manager of this location, everyone I've spoken to on the phone has at least been courteous.
Safety: I can understand some construction mess, however siding and other debris were left strewn about a main walkway through the courtyard of the hotel causing a tripping hazard especially when the courtyard is poorly lit in the evening. This hotel is not disability friendly, I didn't see a single door assist button on any exterior or interior door.

image Let me start this by saying I worked in the hotel service for a while so I generally try to be extra nice to staff as I know what they have to put up with on a daily basis. That being said service was very difficult and rude. The manager checked us in and said we could not use our gift card and had to call customer service. Customer service sent us back to the desk and finally after going back and forth with 3 calls to customer service and 2 trips to the desk we were able to get it to work.
The courtyard is a mess with siding and debris all across the walking path that they tell you to take to get to your room causing tripping hazards. There is also no lights in the courtyard so checking in at night walking through there if you don't know the debris is there it is very difficult to see.
Part of the reason we stayed here was they have adult swim only from 9-10pm however they don't enforce it so there is a whole kids baseball team running and screaming in the pool from 9-10pm. The hot tub looks to be closed permanently.
Update after checkout:
Upon checkout we discussed with the front desk clerk when the manager would be in to call us to resolve the payment issues. We were told she would call between 11am-12pm. We had not received a call by 3pm and called in to talk to someone. The lady that answered the phone refused to help us since they had already charged our card and proceeded to hang-up on us while trying to resolve the issue. I would never recommend anyone staying here as it appears the manager, day shift, and night shift are extremely rude when dealing with simple issues as well as an outdated building that has construction debris laying around. We had other friends staying there this weekend and upon talking to them this morning 1 of them did not have AC in their room (wasn't a big issue as it is cold right now and they could just open a window) the other room that our friends were in did not have heat in it (which seems to be a reoccurring theme if you read the other reviews) and can be dangerous in cold climates/winter time in Iowa. 0/10 would never recommend to stay here.
