*****UPDATE**** Do your self a favor and skip right over this builder. From the day we signed the contract in May of 2021 to right this very second has been a nightmare. Poor workmanship, horrible quality control, no oversight for trades and then nothing but lies and cover ups after that. Avoid at all cost. AVOID AT ALL COST**** Purchasing and now owning a Meritage home has been the absolute worst experience. The customer service, trades, workmanship, quality control, professionalism and overall experience has been horrible.

Prospective buyers beware of this company. By far the worse company to work with. If you youre looking for a great company to work with a purchase a home with I highly suggest looking elsewhere. My boyfriend and I decided to go with Meritage homes for our first time home buying experience and it has been a complete nightmare. This company doesnt care about anything else but money. They have left us in the worse situation we could imagine during this inflated economy. We went into contract with Meritage April 2022. We were told the house we were purchasing would be ready between October-December 2022. We have been so excited for the home to be finished and so anxious to move in because we have a baby due December 2022. We told our sales representative Marcie the news of our baby arriving in December and advise her we were looking to get into our home by December. Not once were we told to expect anything different. On 9/18/22 we were sent an email with a closing date. In the email is advise us the closing date may change by a couple weeks and to plan for any changes. Well on 10/3/22 we were given the most unexpected news. We were told that the city denied the builders plan to do a vault and haul until the main sewer lines were completed and they cant close on homes until April/May of 2023. Not once did Meritage ever mention to us that they needed city approvals still to close on homes. Not once were we ever told we could expect to close by April/May of 2023. At the time of our Meritage contract we were given the incentive to lock into an interest rate if we purchased a home through them and the lock would be valid for homes closing by December. Since our home is now not expected to close until April/May we were offered the capability to move to a different home at a different property which was already ready to move into. We thought this would be a great solution due to the inconvenience they put us through and their lack of communication. Well surprise to us it wasnt. We were told the interest rate we were locked into would not apply to this new property so we were subject to todays high interest rate. They offered us an interest rate buy down of 4% which did nothing because the interest rate on the new home is still higher than the interest rate we were locked into at the original property. On 10/4/22 my boyfriend asked them to send us the contract so we could move forward with the new property since we have a newborn on the way but we also asked if they would please honor the interest rate were locked into because of their lack of communication through this process. Well we didnt get an answer until the end of the business day on 10/6/22 advising us that they couldnt offer anymore buy down on the interest rate and surprise we were emailed that the interest rate went up two times today so our mortgage is even more higher. The lack of urgency and communication with this company has been unreal. They are perfectly fine screwing people over as long as they make their money. Run fast and far from this company unless you want to be left in the worse situation with no place to live because of their misleading information during your home buying process.
