Kwan's Chinese Cuisine on Penn

Kwans is a local Chinese restaurant that underwent an ownership change around 2015. What was once an excellent restaurant with outstanding food has now become a mediocre location with food that is below average. I was a customer of the original Kwan's for over 30 years, but have given up on the new owners after being disappointed with the food on 4 separate occasions.

A solid 4 is a great compliment. I’ve been eating here for years and only just decided to do a google maps review. I’m picky about Chinese food, super picky, & I even spent 1-month in China. This doesn’t mean I’m a connoisseur, I just know what I like and what I want. I normally only order Moo Goo Gai Pan here (as pictured), because it’s always a solid meal and a great value. Aside from the obvious sodium issues (it’s a salty dish everywhere), it’s also a pretty healthy order out option for me (I don’t eat the rice). What I wish I had a picture of are the 2 enormous beef/shrimp spring rolls I ordered tonight that were fantastic. I wish I had a pic of those! Filled with strips of beef & medium sized shrimp, rice noodles & fresh greens I was extremely pleasantly surprised by them. Unruly in their size they were the best to-go order I’ve had in my neighborhood in a while. Bravo!

I was very disappointed with the Chicken chow mein. Little tidbits of chicken in a thick brown sauce with very little vegetables. All sauce. Not worth the price
