When I moved here, there weren't any reviews to go off of, so I came in blind. Overall, I'm very happy with the place.
Pros:
1. Huge apartments! All units are quoted at 750 square feet but many units are easily 100 SF more than that, especially the corner ones.
2. Lovely natural light. Lots of big sliding windows, and a well sized balcony.
3. I have a renovated unit (I think about half are renovated). It has new appliances, nice flooring, quality countertops, and a built-in washer dryer (a single unit that washes and dries in one, which I had never seen before). There is also a laundry room in the basement, which I think is for the units that don't have their own. All units have an updated AC/heating system.
4. Lots of storage space in the units. My unit has 3 large closets and lots of additional built-in shelving and cabinets.
4. Ample parking. There are options for both covered and uncovered reserved parking (for a fee). There is also free street parking if you don't mind the walk; excellent for guests.
5. Professional atmosphere. No kids or pets, so it's pretty quiet.
6. All units are wired for both Xfinity and Fios, so you can choose your internet/TV service.
7. Not a bad walk to the metro. I can get there in about 10-12 minutes (though be warned, the way back is straight uphill).
Cons:
1. Water quality. In your lease you have to sign a disclaimer acknowledging that there is mold in the pipe system. It's very noticeable in the taste, and I don't usually consider myself picky about water taste; I had to buy a Britta filter. You also notice mold growing in sinks/showers much faster than normal.
2. Helicopter noise. LOTS of helicopters fly along 395, mostly going to the Pentagon. If you're in a unit that faces the interstate, be prepared to have to stop conversations / pause movies at least half a dozen times a day waiting for the noise to pass.
3. Combined utilities. The water/electric bill is divided evenly among residents, so if you happen to be the kind person who uses less, you don't get the benefit of controlling your own bill price.
4. The "gym" is pretty lame (especially since it's shut down during Covid).
5. Older features. The elevator and staircases could really use a face lift. I find that the windows are very drafty in winter and need to be replaced. Occasionally bugs get inside.
5. No reception area. Each resident gets a key fob to let them in to the lobby. Packages are just left in the common area. Sometimes it would be nice to have a desk worker to take more valuable deliveries or even to answer resident's questions.
6. Building is for sale. The current management is fine, but they are trying to sell the building to a developer (who would then renovate it into a "luxury" building). So be warned that rents might go up.
