If youre coming from Utah, drive to Paris and turn right on E 2nd N St following the signs directing you to the refuge. Do NOT follow the google map directions that take you down Paris Bottoms Rd, as that took us to an entrance to the refuge that is closed part of the year. Once you make it to the refuge, its a amazing place! We did the auto tour and saw and heard so many bird species - pelicans, hawks, osprey, sandhill cranes, black-necked stilt, white-faced ibis, American coot, magpies, marsh wren, cormorants, and of course many ducks and Canada geese! There was a massive flock of Savannah Sparrows by the restrooms - it felt like being in the movie the Birds as they all flew around!

Get there through Paris, Idaho...follow the sign off 89. It's off a long dirt road, but it was interesting to learn more about the local birds and see a lot of baby birds on the trail. The refuge has a trail to drive on and we would park to walk a bit. No really shade out there, but there is an area to park by the bathrooms. It was a beautiful area to explore. Restrooms: Two single bathrooms for any gender in the same building. I didn't go inside, but assume it is like the other park bathrooms where it's just a hole below the toilet and not flushable.

Incredibly beautiful. We saw more than 15 different water bird species, including trumpeter swans, bald eagles, crows, hawks, Canadian geese, cinnamon teals, and more. I recommend going first thing in the morning to see the most wildlife!
