    We want what all apartments residents want a reasonable amount of peace, quiet and respect from our fellow neighbors. Thats not what we got at The MilTon. And, it appears that our neighbor may have signed a different lease agreement than ours. When my husband and I first moved in, we could not figure out why a large number of teenagers were constantly coming in and out of the unit across from ours. Equally concerning, they never seemed to be with an adult. Later, we found out that The MilTon is the international students housing campus for a private high school in Mundelein. For the last 5 years, an organization has leased numerous apartments as dorms for these minors. (This organizations website and social media show The MilTon property as their Chicago Northshore Campus and provide detailed information with video tours of their dorms and student center.) As it turns out, the unit across from ours is their student housing center. This is where that group of 10-25 teenagers check in, eat, pick up food, meet, hang out, study and gather. Everyday! Every weekday, from 4pm to 10pm, the students would enter and leave that unit, slamming the door in the process. Often, they would simply stand in that doorway and continue their loud conversations. About a month before we moved out, we decided to count the actual number of times they were in and out, and slamming the door. The daily average was over 60 times per day! More than half of those times were the door being slammed so hard it was startling. We could never have a nice relaxing evening. A few months into our lease, we talked with The MilTon office management about asking the unit across the hall if they could please try to keep down the noise and to keep their door closed. To no avail. Months later just prior to our potential lease renewal, we asked if the management team could help us with this noise and overall situation.There was a week or so of improved behavior and a quieter unit. Then, they returned to their normal. The MilTon management offered us no other options or potential solutions; it seems to us that their role should be to attempt to satisfy all residents' reasonable requests and needs. While I can appreciate that The MilTon does not want to risk losing their (profitable) relationship with this organization, I believe that its their responsibility to provide quiet enjoyment to all residents fairly and consistently. We feel like that was not happening. It appears that that organization may abide by different lease terms than ours. According to our lease terms, we are not allowed to operate a business from our unit. The unit across the hall has signage posted on their door; no one lives in that unit or spends the night; students are constantly in and out of that unit for food, to study, etc. The unit is clearly utilized for something other than to reside. They are allowed to have trash and recycle bins outside on their balcony year-round. They prop open their door (with a trashcan) for hours at a time. All of those things are verboten in my lease. After touring many properties in several suburbs, there wasnt a single management team that was not surprised or baffled by our circumstances. We all know of short-term leases and corporate housing but a residential luxury property providing full dorm housing for high school students a first for all of us! In the very least, The MilTon should be more transparent to future residents of the location of this specific unit since it is not being used as a residential apartment. On a positive note, the property is well maintained the buildings and the landscaping. We only had a couple maintenance issues which were promptly addressed by Karl and Francisco (within an hour). We met really nice neighbors that we will stay in touch with and we really liked our 2 bedroom/2 bathroom floor plan. But after living in actual luxury buildings, a student housing center as a neighbor did not translate to luxury!

    We just moved into the Milton apartment. The property manager and maintenance are extremely supportive in answering and fixing any minute issues we had at the apartment when we move in. Meghan, the manager is super nice and answers all the questions we have and is super flexible with our moving plans. Shes always there, ready to help. The maintenance crew, Karla and Francisco, are super responsive, kind, and totally knows whats going on and get our stuff fixed the next day from the maintenance ticket was created. And they fix it properly, unlike previous experiences at our old apartment where they simply patch it up and hope for the best. These two folks are the real deal and we love them so much! We highly recommend The Milton. The fact that its a concrete building and not just wood beams and drywalls like other apartments makes all the difference in noise isolation. Its so quiet and we loved it. The community is full of people who had lived here for 9 or 10 years. Which speaks to how well the buildings are maintained, managed, and how residences here enjoyed staying here. The inside of the building is extremely well kept and they have 100% done a really good job in maintaining this place.
