Redmont Hotel Birmingham, Curio Collection by Hilton

It was literally raining..large roaches..at 1:30am. I could say a lot more about how awful this hotel & the service here was but I will just leave it. I woke up at 1:30 am to a large roach on wall near the bed. I turned on the light & another fell from the ceiling. I drove home to Atlanta in the middle of the night..AFTER I was handed my keys, pointed in the direction of a parking lot at the end of the block and instructed to retrieve my car return the key card to the front desk. ..again I could say more but nothing worse than it was literally raining roaches on the 9th floor Rooms: It was raining roaches my selection of luxury..purely sarcasm..because it was raining large roaches!!

Hotel was nice, could use some touch ups/freshening up throughout. Lobby bar was cute - super bummed that the rooftop bar is closed, and it was not posted. From asking at the front desk, its closed Sunday and Monday now.

Some points to consider: 1) Others have pointed this out, but my room had only cold (or slightly warm) water coming to the faucet and shower. Hence, my showers were shivering. I was told that the boiler needed to be "reset" but it wasn't done while I was there. Other reviewers in different rooms (mine was #608) have said the same thing. There were complaints from other customers while I was there. 2) There was nobody at the front desk when I checked out early in the morning (4 am), so I couldn't get a receipt. I tried following up for an e-mail receipt but despite promises that a receipt was coming, I have still have not received a day later. 3) They sometimes don't answer the phone and the line goes to a cryptic answering service asking if I know the extension of the party I wish to talk to. I don't know the extension. 4) There can be significant street noise, depending on which street you are facing (5th ave). The windows are single-pane and don't filter out breezes and noise. 5) The location is convenient to 20th St and restaurants on 3rd ave. 6) Room service does not replace the water or coffee that you drink from your in-room coffee maker, without specifically asking. To their credit, they compensated me for one night's stay after I complained, so I think this place is trying to make it right. Safety: The area has some charm but is not especially safe. This is not the fault of the hotel.
