Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham East Irondale

Service was great, but the rooms left a lot to be desired. I've stayed at a ton of Hilton properties and this was one of the worst. The bathrooms paint was peeling and the shower had what appeared to be growth in it. The showers were alsl cold, old realized that AFTER I woke up with several ants on my face. Still waiting for a call back from management about this stay. That being said, Courtney was lovely to deal with.

This is a good place to stay if you need to be close to the airport. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean, and breakfast is okay. They really need to shampoo or change the carpeting in the corridors!!

So usually Hampton Inn is my go-to hotel. I can't say that about this location. There were several factors that brought me to this decision. 1. Maintenance and Cleanliness - The construction in our bathroom made me feel very good about my construction skills. Raw drywall exposed, peeling paint on the ceiling, clumpy caulk at the joints. All carpets were dingy and were begging for a steam clean. Bathroom grout was dark brown and desperately needed a steam clean. All furniture was scuffed, scratched and the lamps were no longer firmly attached to the wall. 2. Convenience/Service - There were no extra pillows in the closet if you were going to use the sofa bed like we were. The air conditioner only has 2 modes: on at full blast or off. Breakfast was lack luster and the trays did not stay filled for more than a minute. Only 1 waffle maker was properly working causing a long line. All in all I just wasn't thrilled with this stay. There were 2 good aspects though, it was quiet during our stay and our bed was satisfactory in terms of comfort.

When we checked in, the front desk person was extremely efficient. It took maybe a minute. We turned down our refrigerator because it was not cool and when we returned, it was still warm. We contacted the front desk clerk and she changed us to a room with a working fridge. Breakfast was good. I asked the front desk clerk for restaurant recommendations. They had a printed copy of local restaurants and she went through it highlighting restaurants they had personally experienced. We tried one of her highly recommended restaurants - Saw's Juke Joint - and it was amazing. We had a very memorable dinner there. The room was comfortable, but some of the furniture was worn. It was also pretty clean. The pool was closed for cleaning both days we were there, but we were not planning to swim. The room was quiet. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
