I want to thank everyone working at DDS Luke's dental office for such a wonderful dental experience. I have been going to this office for dental work for at least 20 years with no complaints what so ever. My dental hygienist is one of the kindest persons you will ever meet (Ms Gardener). Thanks again everyone for all the professional work.

(Warning: Long post but worth it if you have Premera BCBS). I went in for a routine cleaning and x-rays on October 22nd, 2018. I had a great experience with the dental hygienist and dentist but had a horrible experience with the front desk about insurance/billing issues. I first received a bill for $500 after I went in which I knew had to be a mistake because the dentist was in-network with my insurance, Premera BCBS of Alaska. When I called the front desk lady she said my insurance claim was still pending and to disregard the bill. No apology or sympathy or anything for scaring me. I didnt think much of it until I received an EOB from my insurance stating that I had to pay for the panoramic x-rays that were done which cost $149. I called my insurance and they said the x-rays wouldnt be covered because I had them done 2 years ago and they only cover it every 3 years. She also said that is something the office should have checked. I honestly dont even remember having those x-rays done because it was 2 years ago. I called the office and the front desk girl said for new patients they normally do everything including x-rays. I told her I didnt think that it was fair for me to have to pay for these x-rays since they didnt even bother to check my benefits and I wasnt even given an option as to whether I wanted them or not. The hygienist just brought me back for x-rays during the cleaning so I assumed I needed them and that like any good dental office, they would have checked my benefits. I wanted to speak to an office manager but she told me she would out of the office until next week. The front desk girl then called me back to tell me that theyve had issues trying to get benefits from Premera and Premera requires them to use an online portal system which they werent comfortable setting up. So basically they made NO effort to check my benefits. The least they could have done was to let me know and I could have checked it for them. At the end of our conversation I told her I still wanted to talk to the office manager when she got back and she said Shes going to tell you the same thing and you are still responsible for the cost. You signed a financial agreement. She also said new patients bring in their x-rays from the previous dentist. I have been to multiple dental offices in my life and NEVER have been asked to bring in my old x-rays. They didnt even ask or give me this option. At this point I was very upset because I felt trapped and felt blown off. I then called my insurance again and the agent said she saw no call record of them even trying to get benefits and even though they are encouraged to use the online portal system to look up benefits, they can still call to find out benefits. Even she was upset at my situation. The front desk girl then called me back and told me she talked to Dr. Donohue and they would go ahead and write off the x-rays. She said she didnt realize that I had just gotten them done 2 years ago even though I literally told her that multiple times. I am thankful that this was resolved and to Dr. Donohue for agreeing to write off the cost of the x-rays, but again I was put in a very unfair position and all this unnecessary stress. The front desk girl did apologize for this. I am shocked that this whole situation happened with an experienced dental office, you think they would have known better. The front desk girl claimed that when they have tried to get benefits before over the phone the insurance agents would not give it to them and said look online but I find that hard to believe. The agent even said they would not turn any office away who decide to call for benefits. Because of this situation, I am not going back to this office for dental care anymore. Its unfortunate for them for losing a good customer.
