Although frequent rocks slides make this area somewhat dangerous at times and also impassable occasionally, the elevation gives a suburb view of downtown Juneau from above and it is an easy hike that is almost completely flat with no elevation gain. The only level hike I can think of that is above sea level by more then a few feet, with lake shores and waterfront boardwalks being the only other options for those who disdain climbing hills. Parking: While there is a large parking lot at the Basin Road end of the trail, the other end is a narrow dead end street with virtually no parking available at the trail head. So you either plan to start and return to the Basin Road trailhead, or plan to be dropped off or picked up by someone who is comfortable with driving down, and turning around on, a narrow gravel dead end road without guardrails and a steep dropoff on one side. Fees: Free Public Transportation: Does not go to trailhead. It is significantly uphill from any of the nearest bus stops. Dog-friendliness: Many dogs, leash law applies.
