My dog has an autoimmune disease. Ive tried everything from antibiotics, flea and tick meds, shampoos, changed her diet, allergy medication. I arrive at my appointment to them asking me her whole history and what meds she was already prescribed I asked them didnt you call the vet office # I gave you for the history? They proceed to tell me it was my vets office who hadnt sent it over (which they definitely did). Then the DR tells me she wants to start her on a prescription food diet which was going to be expensive. I told her no because I had already changed her diet at home cooking her meals. It hasnt worked the only thing that worked was the steroids. So she changed the meds to two different strains of cyclosporine. Costco only has 1 in stock and I went to CVS to fill the other. CVS isnt too knowledgeable when it comes to filling dog prescriptions. (I scheduled a biopsy with her general vet) Went back to original vet because my dog scratched off a whole patch of fur off her ear. Vet told me that shes certain that its autoimmune. Definitely not allergy related from it being directly on her snout and not just the ears. I was told by this office to give her frequent baths, and they were pretty sure it was allergy related. Not to mention I paid $310 just for her to see this specialist! I was told that my dog needed training and that it was bad. I assured them its because she in pain and isnt usually like this. They proceeded to tell me that dog training was 90% owner and 10% for the actual dog. (Edit) The Vet reached out and apologized. I am very impressed that she reached out regarding my concerns. I felt heard and welcomed back with Adara. Thank you.

Being in a customer focused industry myself I have a high standard for others, and when someone exceeds that, its notable! The Vet was very friendly, and provided multiple causes to the issue our Dog was dealing with. She was clear and set proper expectations for potential outcomes. Within a few days our dog, Tank is already seeing a drastic improvement with his health after dealing with a chronic ear infection for the year. After having several other vets and after spending a couple thousand dollars trying to mitigate the issue, this feels like we are finally turning a corner!

Dr. Lockwood is the best! She is so sweet, gets down on my dogs level, and takes extra time to answer all my questions. She has done a great job at keeping my bulldog comfortable over the years. Would recommend to anyone!

First the positives Very nice office. Great location. Friendly and efficient front desk person. Now for some issues that potential new customers may want to be aware of. I took my 70 lb GSD in because she has had several ear infections in the past 6 months and I wanted to see if a dermatologist vet could offer more advice than my vet who suggested a food trial or managing the ear issues as they arise. Since this appointment was a month out, I did research on allergies in dogs. I found out food allergies make up only a very small % of all dog allergies..like people they seem to be much more sensitive to the environment. The vet was knowledgeable and although she said my dog certainly didnt look bad.. no hot spots, ears ok etc.. she wanted to do a strict food trial. Ok. She suggested a food I was familiar with that can be purchased at Chewy, PetsMart among other places with a prescription. I was fine with that. Then she said no heart guard or joint supplements unless she recommended them and they also sold them. Much more expensive than what I was using though. Ok So off I went with the new food and hope. After a week, my dog was not tolerating the food. I made the call to the vet tech, Amber, to ask if we could try another prescription food that my regular vet had recommended. Nope. Not one of their approved foods. Ok But their next choice was a brand that is NOT available locally or at Chewy, PetsMart etc and was way more $$ than what we had just tried at $146 for 19 lbs. I explained the price for this new food was just too expensive and with all current supply chain issues, availability could be a problem. I politely asked to see the list of approved foods with prices to see what else might be affordable. Amber then became very defensive when I mentioned that the list should have been presented to me at the first visit when we discussed the food trial. If prices were too much .. this conversation wouldnt be happening now. She got even more defensive and actually rather snippy and ended the call with Ill ask the vet if your suggested food is pure enough and promptly hung up. Wow. Well it wasnt approved and I NEVER did receive the list of what is approved with the prices. Since the $146 food was refundable as I purchased through them, I returned the bag yesterday. Also they charged over $20 more for the same size bag than Chewy, PetsMart and other the retailers! Not sure if my experience is typical, but a good vet is one that is knowledgeable (which Dr Lockwood was) BUT willing to work within the clients means (which didnt happen). I am a good pet mom trying to do whats right for my dog. And I felt I was treated like a credit card. This is not my first vet specialist through the decades of pet ownership. And .. I NEVER walked away from ANY one of them feeling they werent worth the higher cost than my regular vet. Until this experience.

I highly recommend Dermatology for Animals. I was very nervous bringing my dog here as she can be very reactive and protective of me. I have a good routine with my normal vet that allows us to avoid her triggers, but seeing a specialist and going to a new clinic was stressful. I explained my dog's special needs when I first made the appointment and not only did they take great notes, they shared the notes with all of the staff that was working at the time my dog arrived to ensure everyone was on the same page. The entire team was incredibly warm and accommodating. The vet was very knowledgeable and took the time to listen to my concerns and tailor a treatment plan that will work for our unique situation. I strongly recommend Dermatology For Animals in Goodyear.
