I took the Forest Service Road 338 off of Highway 89A and ended up overlooking the south side of Jerome. You can also spot Humphreys Peak, Sycamore Canyon to the left and layers upon layers of red rock to the right. Views of North Mingus Mountain on the way back. I really wish my sense of smell would return, I couldn't smell the pines. I took Forest Service Road 338 off Highway 89A and ended up looking at the south side of Jerome. Pleasant hike with gradual incline, and mostly shaded.

Walk right across the street to an access road that lets you get to a network of hiking trails (also open to horses). I took #547 through the woods (pretty flat, very shady) that criss-crossed a stream bed several times. After about 1.5 mi, it hit #550, which was a little wider and smoother. Then I took #548, which had some nice views over the valley. 548 took a wide, shale (?) path back down to a narrower path that zig-zagged back to the access road. Overall, I did about four miles in just over an hour, so the trail was pretty easy (and fit for running in most places if you want to do that).
