My family paid Josh Hurd $69,000.00 to repair damage caused to our home by the March 31, 2023 tornado. Almost immediately, issues with the companys ability to complete the work became evident. The crew assigned to work on our home was largely unskilled and inadequately prepared. I witnessed the men hired to make the structural repairs to our home unbox newly purchased tools prior to starting. They did not own the tools required for the job. Further, their lack of equipment required that they borrow various items (ladder, work platform, wheel barrow, shovel, rake, extension cords) from me in order to perform the work. Oversight from the company was inadequate at best. On her days off, my wife was forced to oversee the work being performed in an attempt to ensure things were done correctly. Josh Hurd ignored text messages outlining our concerns; only responding when we told his crew to leave after they arrived at our home the next morning. After questioning the ability of his crew to successfully complete the contracted work, Josh stopped responding to our communications. The roof of our home was left improperly covered which resulted in significant water damage to the interior of our home. Nothing was done well or to the specifications discussed or outlined in our contract. Some issues and concerns we had included: -Failure to remove interior doors to prevent damage during work. They were damaged and will need repair. -Failure to install dust barriers to minimize dust from work area. We will have the house professionally cleaned. -A key to our front door was given to the company on the first day of work. This key was left in the lock after work was completed one day. I asked Josh for his crew to be more careful. He blamed my wife for the key being left in the door. -Our toilet was left filled with urine. -Snapped studs remain in repaired load bearing walls. -Significant portions of our roof that were undamaged in the storm were damaged by the companys crew in a crude attempt to cover up poor workmanship. -Un-galvanized framing nails were used to fasten trim to the exterior of our home. The nails are rusting. -Employees drank on the job. -Roofing underlayment was improperly installed. -The low pitch roof slopes toward our home rather than away allowing water to pool. -A large amount of construction debris was left in our yard. The companys dump trailer was on site the last day of work. They are responsible for disposal of these materials. -Josh Hurd insisted on being paid the next $20,000 ahead of schedule just days prior to him cutting off contact and taking our money. I insisted on sticking to the schedule that he made. We dodged a bullet here. At this time, we are unsure if the structural repairs to our roof and exterior walls are sound. We are waiting for the repairs to be inspected by the Building Inspector and a structural engineer. If the repairs are found to be structurally deficient, then all work performed will require replacement. Our home has sustained significant additional damage from the companys negligence. Requests for money to be returned and for the company to take responsibility for the additional damage caused to our home have been ignored.
