I have been a client for a few years and I was just forced to let Dejene and Assc. go as my CPA. The firm bought the firm that my allegedly retiring (he doesn't actually retire - just talks about it for years despite his formal proclamation) CPA. His rates were very fair and his work (Steven Novikoff) was seemingly suitable. Where I ran into issues was attitude, logistics and security: When I get a letter from the IRS, I would send it to make sure that there isn't an issue. I was terribly and repeatedly shamed for this by Steven. I told him that this was unacceptable. Steven is an older person but for the life of me, I can't get him to CC my bookkeeper on tax and accounting matters. He simply refuses to do so. I asked roughly 10x with failure at every chance. To open up security issue, Steven started emailing somebody else's bookkeeper on my tax issues. Jen "something". Nobody knows who this is? This is about the definition of how a "fishing email" works with a completely OUT-THERE email is attached to emails related to super-important financial topics. This was totally unacceptable. I asked to be transitioned to a younger CPA who isn't retiring. The thought was: bringing in somebody new to work with me and my bookkeeper while Steven was retiring/transitioning would allow for a smooth landing. This was never adopted despite multiple requests. I am getting HAMMERED in my inbox with pressure to e-sign the firm's client agreement. I emailed them to tell them these (above listed) issues and there was no response. After getting another email this morning, I called the main office in hope to talk to a partner who might care about my account. I got voicemail of course. When I hit "9" for the operator - I got hung up on. I think that justifies a 1-star review. I am still wondering however, why buy a firm's book of business to then just walk away from it? Do they think their no-people, low-to-no-cost customer service is worth it? I'd say not. I tried to stay a client but now I am shopping for a new firm.

My experience of Dejene & Associates is that they completely ignored my concerns about how my and my wife's tax returns were being prepared and filed. When I repeatedly corresponded with the tax preparer and the company, then with Mr. Dejene himself, I received NO reply. Had these concerns originated with the previous owner of this firm they would have been addressed promptly and resolved. As a result, we have taken our business elsewhere--and would strongly advise other to do this as well.
