My husband and I lived at Sunshine Gardens for two and a half years, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking to move to Mountain View. The apartments have a nice, spacious layout. The upstairs apartments all seem to be carpeted to help with soundproofing, and the downstairs apartments are all hardwood. We've lived at two different apartments here - downstairs/furnished and upstairs/non-furnished. The apartment managers - Deborah and Diana - are absolutely amazing. They are friendly and caring, and they frequently organize events for the tenants, making Sunshine Gardens really feel like a community. We are moving to be closer to work, but we will miss it here for sure.

I greatly enjoyed living in this community. From the beautiful gardens to the environmental initiatives, quiet friendly neighbors of all different ages. And the value to price ratio is fantastic for the area! In terms of the location: less than 10 min walk to Cal train and just far enough to not hear said train at night. Less than 10 min walk to all the downtown fun stuff on Castro St. If I were staying in Silicon Valley I would never have moved out!

Ive updated my review to 5 stars from 4, solely because of the neighbors who live here. The people make the place. When I was not well, some residents here made us meals and breakfast for our whole family and one even wrote a card. Ive found lovely surprises from the residents, coffee, cookies, treats, watercolors, kind notes, crafts; kindness - it just makes life so sweet to be around good people and know that neighbors are caring and watching out for one another. It is something intangible but essential to living in a place with good energy. Since starting work here in 2015, I can objectively say our apartment community has been slowly improving. Management changed and work has been continuous on green, sustainable improvements. These measures have increased the Energy Star score of the entire community from 46 in 2015 to 99, as of 2021. The green measures included: 1) R38 insulation in all attics, insulation on outside envelopes 2) double paned low e argon filled windows 3) Led lights inside and out 4) drought tolerant landscape 5) low flush faucets, toilets 6) solar water heating to decrease gas usage 7) variable pool pump 8) condensing energy efficient furnace heaters and more... We are currently looking at heat pump water heaters which will eliminate gas usage and electric vehicle charger stations to provide energy for less polluting cars. To sum up why management is so focused on sustainable living is because, 1/3 of pollution is from vehicles, transportation, 1/3 from factories, farms and 1/3 - you guess it, from our homes. While we are working on new improvements for our residents, we also want to keep the best of the Old Mountain View atmosphere. Our citrus, apple, pineapple guava and loquat trees are great to get an (organic!) bite from. Our beautiful redwood heritage trees keep our air clean and fresh. We are proud our community is home to a diverse mix of people with interesting and variable backgrounds. The close proximity to downtown, nearby Sunday farmer's market, tranquil trails, quaint neighborhood and spacious apartment home are all a draw for us as a family.
