Thank you to Jason G and team for helping us build our dream home. From the day we closed escrow, during the permit and demo process, and throughout the whole build, they were their to patiently guide us every step of the way. Our home turned out more beautiful than we ever could have imagined- with high quality finish out, custom cabinetry, and that WOW factor. The whole team of people (Isabella/Brenton/Jason) were reliable, knowledgeable, and always responded with a high sense of urgency. I would recommend Gonterman Custom Homes to anyone who is looking to embark on a home building journey with a great team of skilled professionals whom you can trust.

We just wrapped up a custom duplex with Gonterman Custom Homes and love everything! Jason is great to work with - so easy going and accommodating. Plus, he really understands good design and is will to make the extra effort to bring unique designs come to life. Isabella is also amazing! She has great follow through and really made sure things got checked off the to do list. Looking forward to working with the Gonterman team again soon!

It is so disappointing to be writing this review, however we hope to help prevent the stress and financial strain we have undergone. We have had a leak that has now cost us over $25k to repair and learned along the way that plastic beams instead of metal were in part to blame and screws not even screwed into the studs. 3 other contractors have come out appalled at the level of craftsmanship. Our deck had 3 instead of standard 7 layers and not even waterproofed as in contract and paid for. Jason over 3 years came out and claimed to repair leak twice, but year 4 the water damage was horrific and he ignored our calls/messages. Finally at the threat of a lawsuit, he text back telling us to sue his subcontractor. Unfortunately Jason, our only contract was with you..not a subcontractor. ps We had several red flags throughout the process including his contractor bubble wrapping our 3 year old still asleep in her bed at 8am(they were not allowed upstairs until 8:30 but snuck past) Worst experience then and now:( ***To respond to your response: It was only 3 years after construction our leaks started and clearly were "band aided." our previous home had a deck and we lived there 11 years with no maintenance and no issues. Had we been told we needed maintenance, we would have absolutely done what told. *we had one hammock..less weight than a table and chairs..and this deck is HUGE. Room for a dining table and 8 chairs! and removed at one year unsure if any true problem..but since not used. still after "repair" and "repair" the leak remained:( *we did not pay last 25k bc per YOU it was forgiven as you installed WHITE cantina doors while we were at work and refused to change them out for the BROWN doors ordered. We did not want a 25k credit..we wanted our brown doors!! would cost $60k to replace. We have NO contract with the deck company and paid them nothing. Our contract was 45 minutes thank you solely w gonterman construction. Unfortunately, from researching and talking with two neighbors: 1) we have cracks all throughout 3 years later 2) gonterman walked and left many small things unfinished Seems we are not alone. We would highly recommend OC decks who was professional and knowledgeable. In our contract we have a TEN year warranty and instructions on any maintenance. Fantastic!

Kelly Junker, thank you so much for taking time time to write a review. However, besides erroneously mispresenting my work, you failed to mention that on my $30K markup, you failed to pay me $25K of that. If you recall, I didn't want to take on your small job, but you were a friend of a friend, so you asked if I could help you out and work with your small budget. In my experience, (and ironically now my only 2nd bad review), has always been from people who at the very beginning wanted a "bargain" or "were on a tight budget" from the start. So that fact that you are now suing for your repairs.... 7 years later, is no surprise. What I don't understand is you had the deck guys phone number, I gave that to you when he was out there in 2018 to fix a small crack, why would you have not at the very least called him in the last several years? Perhaps because he told you to remove the metal hammock that was causing your deck to erode and you never did? We know that you never had it removed because your deck faces the golf course, therefor, could visibly be seen years after he recommended removing it. Now 7 years later in your negligence of doing what he suggested , you want to blame Gonterman Construction? I have done over 8 homes, just in your neighborhood alone, with absolutely no issues. Much larger projects with multiple decks, and not one issues? My company is built on my reputation and I take pride in that. Given the fact that I pretty much ended up doing your job for free since you didn't pay me, I still went out and addressed your crack 2 years after I did the work. Again, I stand by my name and my work. So now lets address your comments, clearly from your photos, yes, there was major issues going on, but these just didn't happen overnight. In my 20 years of doing business, I have never had a deck look like this. This was clearly the result of stuff on the deck that was eroding through the waterproofing. I understand that OC Deck recently went out to your project to gave you a new estimate and stated that there should have been 7 coats, perhaps that is the case for the new deck they are looking to install, but as I have recently forwarded you the specs to the waterproofing done on your property, the system we installed is not the same, therefor it did not need 7 coats. Of course a second company coming out to give an estimate is going to tell you we did a subpar job, otherwise how are they going to secure the job? It was signed off by the city and a final was given on your job because it was done correctly and to code. Plastic beam, your photo shows wood beams, which was used, and had you addressed the eroding metal hammock, you would have not had this amount of water damage. Regarding screws not in the studs, OC Deck was out to remove your old decking, clearly screws would be removed in the process. I understand your frustration, but what I don't understand is you let 7 years go by and let it get this bad before contacting myself or the original deck installer? Even if you couldn't get a hold of me as you are stating, you had the original deck installers contact and even he is saying you didn't reach out in all of these years? Hmm....I find it similar to your original tactic of finding some excuse not to pay me, only now your trying to find reason for me to pay for your poor negligence in keep your home maintained. What I find interesting,, you being a dentist, I called your office and they said if I had a root canal done at your office you would not warranty it, not even for a week later, however you are asking me to pay for damages 7 years later on what could have been prevented had you removed the very thing that was causing the damage.Rebuttal: You had a metal hammock on your deck from day one in the midst of heavy rains. You left that on your deck for years and it caused major damage.. period.. If you didn't put oil in your car whose fault would that be? You think it would still be covered under warranty?
