image Pretty cool place. Good for people who want to work in the STEM field. Too bad I want to go into the arts :/
The teachers are pretty good, they're nice for the most part, but there is the occasional bad apple. (COUGH COUGH 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR HISTORY TEACHER. IF YOU WERE IN HIS CLASS, YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHO I'M REFERRING TO.) The school is nice for the most part, though. Miiight be a bit biased because it's a school and I have to learn and stuff, but I'd give it 4 stars. Not enough focus on electives. Too few classes in the arts. It's fine otherwise. I guess.
Edit: okayyy, didn't think i'd have to do this but here we are.
the attendance rules are comically strict, so strict that it makes you want to skip school. there is so. much. homework. that some of my friends have switched schools just to avoid it. the dress code is ridiculous. the lockers can fit NOTHING. i polled some of my peers and roughly 80% of those who answered do not use their lockers. staff and teachers don't seem to realize that we have lives outside of school. you don't get to choose electives in high school. in fact, in the tenth grade, no electives are offered at all in favor of double chemistry.
the high school counselor picks favorite students based off of those that have the fewest problems. she is needlessly cruel and blames the students for problems while giving unclear instructions. she once called my dad, in front of me, after i had told her that he was the parent that was meaner to me. and she called him. in front of me.
why isn't this a one star review? well
i understand that this school may be beneficial to students who are genuinely interested in stem. students who, much like me, were declared "gifted" at the age of eight. but instead of being given the same coursework, their work was made harder so that they'd learn to adapt and not try to go through middle and high school with the mindset of "i could do this when i was younger, now i'm just a disappointment." they know what they're doing.
also.
some but of of the teachers are very good. i've had teachers that legitimately made me excited to learn and teachers that have supported my aspirations even more than some of my closest friends have.
i could spend the rest of this review talking about teachers and how they've helped me and stuff, but it'd be really redundant.
also also.
my best friends went and go here. those kids that were called gifted at a young age and were sorrowfully unprepared for difficult courses, are some of my best friends in the world. and i love 'em. and i wouldn't have it any other way. it's a shame that we all have to go through this, but at least we're drowning together.
also also also.
i dunno if a negative review is enough to kick a student out of a school, but i'm not taking my chances by giving this one star. you never know with the science academy. we've gotten the lecture on digital footprint every single year. i don't exactly have a vEiL oF aNoNyMiTy to hide behind here, anyone can read my account name and know who i am. but that's okay. i doubt any staff members or teachers or anybody will read this, but if they do, i need them to know that this school is not the perfect school it is often made out to be, and there are ways to make it a better environment for students. but they'll probably disregard everything up to this point, because nothing's capitalized and the words aren't in times new roman, double-spaced, font size 12, 2 inch margin, pages numbered, justified. or too long.
i still have summer homework. and instead i chose to write this review. one of the many perks of being in the science academy.
