We are entering our 5th year at RHCDS (have a recent 8th grade graduate and a new 6th grader) and have nothing but praise for the administration, teachers, and staff.  The strong academic focus has prepared our son for high school and beyond.  The extra curricular activities (i.e. sports, theater, outdoor education, clubs) and a focus on values have provided for the perfect mix of academic, social and emotional well being.  Further, the administration did an amazing job navigating through the pandemic providing a strong academic experience remotely, but with a commitment to getting their students back to in person learning as soon as possible. RHCDS went above and beyond to make that happen!

My son and daughter attended RHCDS. They attended kindergarten through 8th grade. Our daughter is a senior in high school and our son is a sophomore in college. We moved to Palos Verdes due to the excellent school system. Over sixteen years ago, I remember touring RHCDS even though we had every intention of attending public school. We needed to find out why some of our friends decided on private schools. After the tour, my husband looked at me and said "why wouldn't we send out children to the best school?". To this day, my husband and I, along with our children, absolutely agree, sending them to RHCDS was the best decision and investment we ever made. RHCDS has the traditional values that we wanted instilled in our children along with forward thinking for the future. Small class sizes, faculty and staff that goes above and beyond for the benefit of each and every child. They have their own dedicated music, art, computer, and physical education teachers. Public speaking is a big component at RHCDS and it sets the groundwork for confidence and success in the future. At the end of each and every school year, one thinks to themselves, "how can next year be any better than this?" and sure enough, it is! The goal of RHCDS is to raise confident, happy, compassionate, kind and good people. Parents want the best for their children, and again, by far, to this day, this is the BEST gift we have given our children.

RHCDS is a special place and offers an exceptional education. Our experience spans ten years while our two sons attended K through 8. At every stage, RHCDS exceeded our high expectations. Our sons received a well-rounded and traditional education that challenged the most gifted students while ensuring that struggling students are fully supported. The curriculum is balanced - from language skills to history to STEM, our sons truly learned and were exceptionally well prepared for high school, where they are now thriving and well positioned for college. Perhaps even more important to our family, the focus on values is core to RHCDS in a unique way - in a time when the priorities of some schools and educators seem to be changing dramatically, RHCDS has remained true to its students and their families, offering a healthy and inclusive learning environment while preparing children for real life.

We have been so fortunate to have found RHCDS.  It truly is a special place.We invested in our children when we sent them here, and it has been nothing but positive returns.  I don't doubt my children could have succeeded academically anywhere they went, but this school gave them a challenging curriculum and so much more.  The school fosters strong character, lasting relationships, and a sense of confidence in one's abilities.  It provides the opportunity to succeed above and beyond the classroom.  I can't name all the opportunities they've had the chance to experience from being here.  I know they are so much better prepared to succeed in high school and beyond.  The school is special because of all the wonderful teachers and staff.  We are so lucky that our children and our family could be a part of this community.

In an area where the public schools are amongst the best in the nation, it would ordinarily be difficult to justify a recommendation to a private school however, the exception is Rolling Hills Country Day School ("RHCDS").  For a variety of reasons too lengthy to list here in this review, I can unequivocally say that RHCDS is simply suburb and a cut above the very competitive alternatives in the area.  As a Palos Verdes resident and a parent who has had children in both public and private schools, I have a good understanding of the options for schools in the South Bay.  Although every child's needs and abilities are unique, if you are serious about preparing your child for high school and life beyond, RHCDS is without hesitation the school I recommend.
